Older fk scales on the top????

Winner winner chicken dinner! FK2 scales on the 3V version. Doesn’t seem like it would be a huge difference, but I like the FK2 scales so much better.

Yeah, there’s a HUGE difference IMO. So far, I think I agree, I like the FK2 scales better. I bought a set of Double Red/Double Black scales from sgt1372 recently, thinking they were BFK/FK3 scales, as that is what he had them on. Much to my surprise, they arrived and were FK2 scales! I was pumped!

Sorry about the quick and crappy pics/lighting, but I’m working right now. FK3 scales on the left, FK2 scales on the right. Doesn’t look like a huge difference, but the FK2 is definitely thicker in the middle, with more contouring, and more grooves, which, to me, translates to more comfortable and better grip. Once you compare side by side in hand, the difference is pretty noticeable.

I measured mine awhile back. Going from memory (sorry, I didn't write it down), the FK2 was ~0.05 thicker at the center screw, and ~0.025 thinner at the rear screw vs. the FK3/BFK.

It doesn't seem like much on paper, but it is pretty significant in-hand IMO.

Interesting. For some reason I thought only the BFK had the "flatter" scales , and that the FK3, being a "full blown" CPK, would've been the same or very similar to the FK2.

FK3 doesn't have the hidden lanyard hole either. I somehow missed that in the preorder, so was a little surprised upon receipt. Not the end of the world, just unexpected.

Looks like plain old black micarta.
If you want black, I’d recommend double black canvas or double black linen.

ferider showed me the light a couple of years ago, even filling the unusable lanyard holes with a wood putty (I believe). All of my BFK/FK3 users wear FK2 scales. Me likey, too.

But his taste is horrible... he's only forced me to buy, like, 8-10 other knives I didn't know that I needed. But I got him back once with a Zu chopper he couldn't resist; a minor, but proud, victory.
