I just want to add that this thread has been a great resource for me in my search for finding a light I would like to carry. I chose a SWM V11R for getting my feet wet in the EDC of a light. That being said, much like my knife "progression", I started out a little more affordable (but well respected and reviewed) so there would be little risk if I determined that carrying a light every day wasn't for me. When I show my less knife aware friends my Hinderer, they all really love it, they can tell that it is a quality item. However, I am not sure that they appreciate it as much as I do since I have owned many well made, albeit less expensive, offerings from many well respected production companies-hence can see the small differences and nuances that make me appreciate it the XM for what it is. Since I feel that approach worked for me with knives, I thought it would work with lights.
Before I bought my SWM (having owned a surefire 2xCR123 led defender for many years), I did some research on CPF, various gadget forums on here and other sites, and here in this thread. I read about McGizmo, HDS, Muyshondt, Len Light, Prometheus, etc. etc. However, I ended up with the SWM because, like I said, I was getting my feet wet, not diving in head first to the deep end. Now I know what I am looking for. I want a clean UI (the SWM is the epitome of a clean UI and versatility in my opinion.) Enough output as necessary (for me that is the off chance that there is a dog on my late night walks or some nefarious criminal coming at me to take my stuff, a bright light in the darkness can give quite a startle and in turn buy some time to avoid any "problems"). Several levels of less bright. Well made, good materials and a company that back their products. One cell CR123 and pocketable (clip preferred). The SWM ticks those boxes for me FOR NOW. I say this knowing the kind of person I am (not a collector, not an accumulator, I just appreciate the finer things and would rather have 1 great thing than 3 really good things). I really appreciate the opinions of many on this forum and see an HDS rotary 200 (250) in my future. Because of getting the SWM (and handling various fenix/klarus/etc. lights), I think I will appreciate it more when it comes. Just like I appreciate my Hinderer more because of my experience with the others I have had.
This was a bit of a rambling, sorry
