Flashlights

My current edc is a Muyshondt Aeon (1xCR2). Simple, rugged, bright, small. Pictured next to an Arc AAA.

I found this picture by accident. I sold it long ago but was a cool light. I believe it was called "Bits" or something but I havent been able to find any more info on it. 1xCR123.

Bumping this thread as I'm now in the market to replace my current torch.

Need2know - what do you recommend and did the HDS meet your needs?

Mine are nowhere as sweet as this one, but I have a couple of Sunwayman lights. I have an older model M20C and the V11R that I carry every day. Crazy bright on an RCR123 battery and I love dialing up the exact amount of light that I want without 15 clicks or blinking disco modes.

I cannot recommend any one light as I have yet to find the right one for me.

HDS are robust and reliable, carry them very often.

But...they are heavy, so heavy that it gives the impression the light is larger than it is. The knurling is not grippy so these lights are slippery...good for getting it out if a sheath/pocket but not so good for gripping the darn thing. I've dropped them...good thing they are so robust.

For their weight, they should be brighter too...200 max lumens falls short sometimes trying to illuminate things outside of structures (outside).

And huge bother is the low battery indicator. Never fails to happen when I'm furthest from fresh cells. Each time you turn the light on it will flash to indicate a low battery. Ignore it for awhile and it flashes more often, not just at initial on.

If they were lighter weight, grippier and brighter they would be a contender for pocketable illumination domination.

Oh, and if you are going to order direct, it takes a long time to get your light.

I ordered my HDS about a year ago - still isn't here and I will leave it at that or risk a two(2) page diatribe that belongs in GB&U forum.
I do not care for lights from China which presents a challenge seeing as 99% of them are.
I do like (own many) Surefires especially since the pricing and features have started to mirror the market.
Tough, Bright and ergonomic. Anyone ever askes me about "What light to get" I usually ask what do you want it to do and how will you use it.
Depending..... conversation goes from there.
Comparable in size and price to the HDS is the EB1 Backup (I would say probably brighter than the HDS) Surefire is conservative IMO when rating output and their beam quality (color and shape) is top notch.

The E2D Defender at 500 lumens AND with self-defense designed into the chasis - is a top pick too.
I have a Fury as well (500 lumen)

My HDS is supposed to be here in 3 weeks, I'd say I will report back but if I had a light in hand for every time one was supposed to be here in 3 weeks - I would be talking to you from my Flashlight Store.

I'm sorry, but personally I think Surefires are WAY overpriced. You mentioned the EB1. $150 for a 200 lumen 2 mode light, really? As far as I'm concerned, the only things they've got going for them are the fact that they are USA made and their military/LEO contracts, which adds to the "cool" factor.

I believe IF you read what I said you would see that the EB1 was mentioned because in answer to the question that was asked, the EB1 is comparable to the light being referenced (the HDS) size, price, output and Country of origin - the two lights are very comparable with one difference being - one of them actually shows up so it cam be deployed.
So lets tone down the "Really" - this isn't going to be a flashlight argument thread - it is simply a show and recommend thread.

I have 4 HDS, including an original twisty Ra light. Love them and use them every day. I have had a rotary on order for 14 months, so good luck on those 3 weeks, have heard that from Henry more than once.

For small, versatile utility lights I have really been liking the Olight S10 and S15. Very low moonlight mode I find incredibly useful late at night to maintain night vision, and pretty useful higher beams too. And a decent interface.

I have a ton of lights, from HDS, McGizmo, Mac, Tain, Sunwayman, Fenix, Olight, MBI, etc. The one I carry the most is a titanium Sunwayman M11R Sirius modded with an XM-L2 T6 5000k. The tint is great, the interface is simple, it looks pretty good, the beam is nice and the output levels are appropriate (it would be nice to obtain the firefly mode without going through L/M/H).

FYI- For those who care about such things. I recently purchased a Maglite (XL50) at my local hardware store. I had owned (years ago) Maglite products, the big bulky dual-purpose lights....many batteries, not much light and what there was could not be focused into any assemblence of a tight cohesive beam no matter what BUT you could bean somebody on the noggin if thay got too close and you weren't comfortable with their choice of password.
So, when I bought this tiny (relatively) latest offering with no aspirations to add it to my collection of over-priced torches - simply a toss-in the glove box "extra" light... Does anyone actually wear and store gloves in the compartment of the same name anymore? Just curious.
I digress.
It was like $22 I think, the cashier even exclaimed, "Wow $22 for a Flashlight!" I think we were on opposite ends of the spectrum with our reactions to the price but... I paid and Thanked him for his time.
I left the light in the back seat still in bag w/receipt for the better part of a week.
One night I remembered "hey" What the heck did I do with that cheapo light I bought (what a douche collecting can turn me into) :)
I found it and after an hour or so of attempting entry into the "retail chastity pack" I thought maybe I'd try cutting it open with my XM (Wow, genius).
NICE. Metal, came with batteries and everything. Nice inside.... Hmmmm Made in the USA - I was starting to get excited!
I knew in my heart that was going to be short lived though, darkness was upon us and all this was going to take was a short walk outside and all my memories of a crap light were going to come flooding back (pun intended) Except this time I wasn't even going to be able to bean my nemesis - the chipmunk, on the head.
Ok, lets get this overwith - can't even re-pack it and give it to one of my Brothers for a Christmas present.
So... I go out back (into the abyss) aim my body towards the woods and lift my tiny weapon of the night, thumb at the ready, WAIT!
I go back and get a beer so, I have something to cheer me up, after all I just blew $22 (plus tax)
Back outside.
Thumb press the clicky button (nice tactile feel) and POW!!! - I turned the woods into a perfectly round, perfectly illuminated (no dark circle or rings) penetrated Night into Day area before me. Holy Crap! They mis-packaged a NiteCore or a SureFire or something.... this isn't my Dad's Maglite (or Oldsmobile, are they still in business?)
$22 are you kidding me? What DumbA$$ spends $250+ on a Flashlight!!! Ummmm Uhhh ahhhh - Scratch that, Please disregard that last statement.
I'll tell ya' Flashlight snobbery aside, Hobbys are what they are and I loves me my Collectingshipmanship:foot:
These are Great lights. I do not EDC one (tad too big even though small for a MAGLITE) but in my Shop, in the Car, Purse (No, I do not carry a purse), Gift ..... Made in the USA and a nice light.
They have other models, this is the entry level I think. I believe rated at like 110 lumens but just a nice color light and a nice shape as well.
Go USA:thumbup:

After reading that great Maglite monologue I'm definitely giving them a second look. I also have a collection of old black pipes filled with batteries with a semblance of a flicker on one end. Glade to hear they have evolved, thanks for the heads up Rubi.

You are more than welcome my Friend.... they have three(3) models in the category I referenced xl 50,100,200 (no, no correspondence to lumen output - that would have made sense so undoubtedly an x-govt employee was involved in the nomenclature assignments)
They do have a gee-wiz "mode" selector where you grasp the light and assume the "I have a flashlight position" and then pretend to twist its nose off.... that motion causes the mode selection - pretty cool!
Lumens are:
50- 139
100- 103
200- 172
I'm not sure which one I have I will have to look tonite.

Give you an idea of (whay I like as an EDC light size wise) Light looks larger than it is probably because of it being in the foreground.

Better angle for size. Bright and useful light (just wish it was Made in USA)
