I think this thread should permanently be on the front page along with the "Guns and Hinderers" thread. Far too much great information to not be readily accessible. I was just rereading all of this tonight trying to decide how I want to upgrade my EDC light. I've been carrying a zebralight sc52 and it is very good, but I feel like an upgrade is in order. I've been debating what actually matters for me in terms of EDC and what I would be comfortable with and I think the Lens light mini leads the pack at the moment. I've also been looking at the full size Lens light KO, the surefire E2D defender, and the Prometheus alpha. I really like the bigger lumens and better throw since a fair amount of my EDC light use is outdoors and at a distance, but I'm not sure the added benefit is worth constantly carrying the extra size, weight, and taking up such a large amount of pocket space. I'm not quite ready to jump in, but I think my ranking for what I've seen is:

Lens light mini
Prometheus Alpha
Surefire E2D
Lens light KO

I want something that can really take care of my everyday needs, and I probably disproportionately to most need a good thrower. I want something that I can comfortably carry (wranglers, don't have tons of extra space), but that performs well in all the circumstances I use my lights for. Long story short, this thread is a wealth of information and I'm bumping it up!

I swear. I was driving this afternoon and told my brother in law, "now that I have my xm, I think I'll go for a lens light mini next, and then either a investigator or prometheus pen (I can't really decide)." Needless to say a very cool setup!

You're very welcome. Compliments paid where they are do, it is a fantastic set up. How do you like the light and pen? On both fronts I'm attempting my due diligence research, but my knife knowledge definitely trumps my overall gear knowledge.

Read this entire thread the past couple of nights while on night crew - thanks now I want a Hinderer quality flashlight or four!

N2K - what do you think about Olights? There are a couple that seem to fit you desired specs: 300ish lumens, 3.5ish", clicky, some with rotary, strobe, variable output. The Cadet and S10 seem to appeal to me - I also want something small/compact for pocket carry that has all/most of the above.

I almost pulled the trigger on ordering a couple of HDS lights - the website claims a 2-week build. Reading through this thread seems to indicate otherwise? Rubi, N2K - any feedback there?

Thanks guys - lots of cool flashlights posted, thanks for dragging me into wanting one!:D

Well, here's where I am on lights. I'm tired of being lied to about a lights "specs" or build time. Mass-produced lights made overseas seem to never be truthful in their claims on lumens or estimate "runtimes".

To doubters: Argue with me if you want, but if you are the type that repeats their data sheet as fact, move along.

Henry ran into various production issues that pushed delivery of his lights out way beyond what the Website claims. Recent orders seem to still be delayed. Watch reputable dealers closely, I snagged the FDE clicky well before the rotary I ordered arrived. (It took a year.)

N2K - thanks!

I'll watch vendors vs ordering direct from Henry then. I don't like pre-paying without a definitive timeline. In the meantime I might try out Olights, both for compact EDC and keychain as well a weapon light for a KSG that's supposed to show up this week, hopefully..

Send me a PM if you are interested, I know of a vendor with HDS lights in stock. Ordering from Henry directly is only neccesary if you need a custom build. The production backlogs seem to have eased somewhat but again it depends on what you want/need.
The Surefire E1B Backup is a heck of a good EDC, Great throw (TIR lense)
I agree with N2K about lights from overseas and the exaggerations.
I EDC an HDS and have in my Go-Bags HDS and Surefires of higher outputs (Fury models)
The HDS is IMO "the Hinderer" of Flashlights so, until Rick starts making lights - that's what sits in the same pocket.

Every time I look through this thread I change my mind about what light I need. I think the problem I have is my current benchmark and light I use for comparison may not be accurate. I can base what I want/need off of it, but sadly I'm not really sure how to interpret the information I have. I currently EDC a zebralight sc52, and from that I know- I want brighter, more throw (we will call this top priority), and warmer color. I know the throw and color will make a significant difference in how/what I can see, but if this little thing really is 280lm I'm not sure I could be satisfied with something less bright. Of course I have no idea if this thing is actually 280lm to begin with. I've basically been oscillating back and forth between Surefire, Lens Light, and Prometheus, and now maybe HDS too. I like a lot of added run time and power in some of the bigger lights, but I'm unsure of how well something like the bigger Lens Light, Surefire E2D, or Prometheus Alpha Ready would carry. On the flip side, if I'm not actually improving what I can see in the dark significantly with the little Lens Light, EB1, or HDS I'm not really addressing my current usage problems. Any input or suggestions are certainly welcome! Also, here is my current light with my Hinderer!

4 HDS, Rubi....

I still wish they were more this, less that...and without all the pestering and very noticeable indicators for drained cells and the automatic step-down in output is very annoying on a light that rarely seems to be "bright enough" when outside.

But I carry them because they can take a beating, dropping, asskicking...and still function. That's why they made it into my pocket.

Been meaning to add to this post for a while, sorry the torch pic is a little fuzzy, but the light isn't exactly a search light either..... it gets the job done, runs for a fair amount of time on a AA, and stands on it's tail to light up a room from ceiling splash..... I use it on calls to get vitals when there's power outages etc... Got it from county comm years ago, and use it every day under cars in pretty mean conditions, it's stainless steel and the lens is a very hard glass, that doesn't scratch, think its a Maratec. It wears some rubber tubbing so my XM doesn't get any unneeded scratches. The 561 is my 1st attempt with the Wicked Edge.... Killing two birds with one post...
