for winter, what Buck ya carrying and how cold is it...

21 here now in northern Illinois. Haven't been hiking below 40 degrees yet this winter, but here's a pic of my 110 last winter below freezing. It'll be out there again soon.

How did you do that wrap? I'd like to be a copycat if you will let me. Over then under and repeat to the end I'm guessing. How to end it though?

I found this online and use this method. https://cubscoutideas.com/2666/handmade-hiking-sticks/ Start with 2 holes in the stick 6" apart. Feed the paracord through the top hole then down the stick through the bottom hole. Leave a foot or so of cord sticking out the top hole, and several feet of cord out the bottom hole. Then start wrapping cord from the bottom up, alternating under and over the vertical piece of cord that goes between the 2 holes in the stick. When you get to the top, feed the cord through the top hole and tie a knot with the other cord that goes through the top room for a hand loop and tie another knot at the very end. I singe the cut ends with a lighter to keep the ends from fraying.

Hope this makes senseScreenshot 2023-12-02 at 5.45.23 AM.png

It does, many thanks. I did this yesterday with only one hole and no loop. I think I'll leave it like that.

Looks great!! After a while, the paracord could loosen. I now apply Minwax wood hardener to the paracord to prevent loosening over time.
I started the over and under at the top hole. There's a knot at the bottom that's keeping the vertical paracord tight and pushing upwards on the wraps. Hoping that keeps things from working loose with use, the cord feels nice in the hand with no treatment.

32 degrees here this morning, but sunny and should get up to 40's. In honor of "fixed blade fridays" I strapped on my 3V 119 yesterday when I put my pants on, just the right size fixed blade for carrying IMO, any bigger and it would look silly, and if I want something smaller i'll just carry a folder.
