Formal Occasions and what- or IF- you carry

From what the OP posted I would go with the fixed blade. Some other great choices here as well. I echo the idea of a Mnandi, or even a Sebenza being nice choices. I also like the idea of a small traditional, including the Lionsteel modern/traditional hybrid offerings. I think a small silver Alox SAK would be a class option too, perhaps even just the Vic money clip.

I once owned this as my formal occasion knife, but eventually sold it because...well, because I didn't attend enough formal occasions (pretty much none) to justify keeping it.

I always carry at formal occasions. Two formal occasions this month with a little pro-tech runt 5 auto in my pocket.

I’ll add that I do prefer using a pocket slip for my knife in suit or tux pants. Helps prevent it from ending up horizontal at the bottom of the pocket which I hate, or even worse, falling out completely. Pocket clips are definitely a no no.

I concur with the others that said a SAK Cadet is perfect for an occasion like that.

Formal Affair?
I wouldn't feel fully-dressed without at least having my Benchmade Valet with me.
After all: there's bound to be prime rib there, and it'll need some cutting done to it!

That's when you break out the Espada XXL

Oh there isnt an XXL? Make it happen cold steel.

In my experience, weddings are like aphrodisiacs for women. They basically go nuts at weddings and want to have sex with any guy that looks okay. I've even known some guys that looked less than okay that made out like it was Christmas. So, I have to ask myself: Would I be thinking about a knife to prepare for a wedding?

I don’t do formal either, but if I had to I’d probably take something light, like a 0450cf

This is what I carried at the last "formal" wedding I went to. A ZT0308 and a Leatherman Mutt.

I'm not built for formal... But if I actually had to be for a serious moment, I'd choose my Sebenza.

A knife ankle holster? I'm down for three (one for each ankle and a backup). Where's the "Buy Now" button?

A man still has to eat
..
Are you gonna pick that steak up in your hands, and gnaw on it? Carry a knife: it is proof our civilized nature. 🙃
