free set micarta scales - with a hitch while 30 pair last

Looks good Dave. Did you make that box? Looks like magnets for latching? What's the liner? Does it hold the knife securely from sliding around when closed? Thanks, Phil

I finish a knife and Phil notices the box. :)

I did make the box. Yes, magnets for the latch. The liner is green felt. This particular box doesn't secure the knife from sliding around. When I make a box for this knife it won't slide around. I'll show it to you when it's finished.

Phil, thanks for noticing the box. If you look at my photo album you'll see a derringer in a box I made. It is fitted so the gun stays put. I'll do the same with the knife. I make and sell the boxes on eBay.

Thanks Dave,

The knife looks great, as does all the stuff in you album. When you make the box would you mind doing a separate progress/tutorial thread? That would would be fantastic!

Aloha, Phil

Phil,

How would I go aboot (I'm practicing my Canadian accent for Patrice) doing a tutorial here, eh? Just post some photos with a little narrative?

Hey Dave,

Yup, that's about it. Take photos as you progress and talk it up!

Looking forward, Phil

Heck yeah, Dave, let's see how you make those boxes! Nice knife, by the way :)

I must say, that butterscotch micarta looks better than I thought it would. Thanks Tracy for helping these guys out!

+100 to usa knifemaker supply! I goofed-up my first order from them, and they still got it to me FAST and with very reasonable prices. I look there first now for anything I need. Don't forget to check out Tracy's pizza recipe:) Looks yummy, eh?

Tracey,

I worked with 3 Canadians and I started to pick up the accent a little. I told one of them I wanted to learn to speak Canadian and was told to just end my sentences with "eh?" :)

I don't have the photos yet but I do have the instruction typed up. Where do I put it?

When I made the first box I kinda had to wing it. Until recently I never even used a router, eh?

I had a great female friend in high school who moved up to Thunder Bay for a while after we graduated (1988). At that time, we kept in touch mostly by snail-mail; this was before everyone had internet and cheap phone service. It cracked me up that she was so used to talking "Canadian" she would actually write "eh?" at the end of almost every sentence.

Y'all just wait till you talk to some WI/UP guys from "up nort', dare" who say stuff like "an'so?" and "ya, dare, hey!" :D I totally understood all the dialog in the movie "Fargo"... just sayin'... ;) My dear ol' Dad bought "fillum" for his camera and "bat-trees" for his flashlights.

I'm from Fargo. That whole movie was fictional (no matter what it says in the credits) but I know people just like that den dare..Oh yah!..as a kid I used to hunt up Nort and we ended up across the border more than once by mistake (it's a simple barbed wire fence for most of it and in some cases, it's open logging roads)

Dave, just start a new thread, title it what you think is intuitive and mix pictures with text in order and you'll have it...looking forward to seeing it.

Tracy,

Just to let you know, my order (including the set of micarta scales) arrived safe and sound here in Gatineau at the end of last week. That was fast shipping! I've been working on my blade since then, and I'm looking forward to show it to you guys...if everything go as planned, the micarta will be put on my first forged blade (forged it with Robert Mayo a week ago)!

OK, OK...here's a WIP picture - sorry for the poor basement-shop quality :o

It may take a little bit of time, but the knife will be finished someday! Thanks again Tracy!

that's going to come out nice I think..you did get that shipment fast. I've been seeing some slow days crossing the border lately...

I am very new to knife making so when I ran across this forum I decided I would join. I purchased a sheet of the micarta from US Knife Makers before finding this topic. I figured I would post a pic of the 6th knife I have made using it. Don't be too hard on me....
