French regional knives...

Great service from Fontenille Pataud (very friendly guys). They are even able to do some customizing (within reason) if you ask for it. For me it was a 10 cm version in Guilloche Range which was not available with Juniper scales (I love that wood and it smells so nice) and without the Inlay on the shamrock. All easily solved and with a comparable price to the Capuchadou version (basically no mark up for the customization).

My experience too. Got a leather handle that otherwise wasn't available. I only needed to ask.

I've had very good experiences with F-P as well, including rehandling a knife that had got damaged. That knife alas, got lost later on by me :(

H Haegar could you show some pix of the Chamois please? i like a Spear and been thinking about having one. Not very keen on the jewelled 'mouche/abeille ' though.

Regards, Will

Will Power Will Power I will take some pictures and post them hopefully later this week. If everything goes as planned I should receive the shipment from France sometime tomorrow. Then I‘ll only have to figure out how to post pictures but that shouldn’t prove to difficult.

H Haegar Looking forward to it Gerd, you must be excited too

If you want to post pix just use an image hosting site, e.g. Imgur and post them in.

I have a FP Capuchadou, the smaller size, and the blade does contact the back spring if I let it snap shut rather than close it gently. However it does not rest on the back spring as some French regional knives do. I’m nothing but impressed by the quality, though. Excellent fit and finish, outstandingly strong lock with great snap at open. Elegant lines, sharp blade—it’s great!

Jolipapa Jolipapa My understanding is Mr. Juhel is a Frenchman that lives and works in France.

If I have this info wrong I will delete my post.
The thread is about French regionals. There's one pattern common to Sweden and France, barrel knive/morutier, but he makes fixed knives and his next show attendance is in Helsinki. This would be better placed in a Puukko knives thread.

Maybe I should move to France and start making Lags and say they're a Finnish pattern ;)

Er, lack of skills might be one problem :D

That hasn't stopped some people.

Edit to add - fitting that this is in my pocket right now

Today in my pocket my Laguiole Le Pocket with Juniper scales from FP instead of the expected Le Chamois from FP which was by accident shipped as a Capuchadou (same Setup but different blade style).

So back it went because I have that already. Pictures of those will follow later when I get the shipment for the Le Chamois.

Nice item Gerd, but at least the right one will arrive, eventually... oddly enough, i had the same experience with G.David back in June/July. They sent me the wrong Lag, had to refuse delivery & wait quite some time for the correct one, they were most apologetic though. What's going on in France? ;) Must be all that mask wearing even outdoors in the depths of the countryside, turning people crazy ....i can understand that:eek::D

I don’t think it has anything to do with France. I’m more than happy that they are able to do such a customization at all for only one piece. Others manufacturers are not even able/willing to make an SFO for a couple of hundred pieces.

I was asked to order a defined Capuchadou as a base version because that was the easiest way to get the order into theis system. My changes and adjustments were to be put in the comments field and to add the remark to ask their GM with whom I had previously discussed the details.

So far so good but unfortunately only one part of the changes went through and the other one (blade style changes from Capuchadou to the Le Chamois style) got somehow lost. If it had been the other way round I would have kept the knife.

These things happen and as long as it gets solved everything is fine. FP showed a professional response and I can easily wait a few more days knowing they get it fixed even if the anticipation is growing day by day.

H Haegar I was only having a laugh about France, not in seriousness ;)
i know this is not knife related, but it has a strong connexion to French culture, regional and urban. Snapped this beauty in a street near me a couple of years back: simple, functional and an iconic car, real genius  As was your VW Beetle
