This knife maker is located in Taillebourg, Charente-Maritime, France. While this design is associated with Finland, I think Mr. Remaud is making the nicest barrel knife anywhere and his version is very French. These
both have juniper handles, my favorite material for French knives.
These are just beautiful knives, with a sturdy, simple mechanism. Very finely finished, and any smudges or streaks are just from my poor photos and grubby hands.

That Swedish pattern was frequently used by French fishermen fishing cod around Newfoundland, thus the name morutier, from morue (cod) also called tonneau (barrel), but there's another knife with the same name. JMR makes a very nice rendition and these are no exception.Nice-looking knives, ElGato!!
