From Cattle Knife to Stockman!

Man o man !!! From Albert's sample drawer  Now that boggles the mind !!!!
It does indeed, Gev. Stored with it is one more mind boggler! I'd love to find this Camillus Stockman pictured in a catalog; especially with a name!!
It has three springs, the pile spring having two opposing blades.
Mark blade, a standard clip. Next, a turkish clip (I think!). Don't see them too often!
At the pile spring a punch, and what might be a spey (but is a bit odd).
All four blades have 4-line Camillus stamps.

Thats a Turkish Clip if ever there was one Charlie, What a fantatstic Knife- Thats the sort of knife that a mediocre Collector like my self would give almost anything for a knife like that :eek: ( I will offer Paul's Lefty :D ).
If EVER there was a Knife that deserved a name of "Premier Stockman" this would be the Knife.

Here are two more rather unusual stock knives.

GEC #82, with muskrat clip, Wharncliffe, and pen clip blades @ 4.2" closed.

And a Winchester prototype with a Turkish clip main @ 4.3 inches closed.

I say Premium Cattle Knife  How long is it closed? The beauty of this one must be breath taking in hand ;)

That Premium Stock (corrected from Cattle) knife is 3 7/8" long, Gev! Breathtaking indeed; the blades are beautiful, nicely patina-ed, and clad in great jigged bone.
(I think Premium Stock knife is more correct!)

Nice I*XL Charles!!

Nice Stag Cattle, North Shore!!

Muchas Gratias for the pics Jake!! It is such an education, to be able to look back in those catalogs!!
I was looking for that almost-gunstock pattern (thought I had one) but found this one instead. A 3-spring whittler-ish Premium Stockman! Came from Albert Baer's sample drawer, I was told!

Using google image search I was able to find a close visual match in this 1963 Spiegel catalog. It is called a "spider monkey". ;) :D :p

This spider monkey from HSB looks like it might have 3 large blades.

Here are a few with two large blades and a smaller blade.

The most uncommon might be a stockman with a cap lifter.

Until recently, I hadn't seen a stockman with a cap lifter. A forum member was selling a 5 blade sowbelly with a cap lifter... a beer belly!:D It was rehafted by another forum member but the blades were described as original to the knife.

These threads are a wealth of knowledge. Thank you to all who have provided such.

View attachment 855417 What is a 4 1/4” Stockman then Charlie? Or are they simply big:D (the left one)
Thanks, Neal
Nice monkey business, Jake!!:D
I think the left knife is a Premium Stock knife Neal, modified for an equestrian. And everyone knows what you mean if you call it a Stockman!!
Of course you could call it a Premium Spider Monkey!!:p:D

Above, the OVB, the Remington and the Ulster could all be accused of having three springs!!
Unless the artist was just monkeying around??

Very good observation Charlie! They sure do look like three springs in those artist renderings:rolleyes:o_O Yeah must have been monkeying around:D

With all the icy cold beverage drinkers around here, one would think a “Beer Belly” would sell quite well! Idk how long pressed caps have been around, but I would guess someone wanted to incorporate an opener into a knife within a year or less.:D Purely hypothetical of course:)
Thanks, Neal

OH NO!! Now someone is going to ask GEC to produce one!!!:(
Hope everyone forgets this thread when a Sowbelly comes along!!!:p
I still remember the Beerlow kafuffles of past discussions!!

Just before this cap lifter nonsense  there was talk about the three spring Stock knife. Here is a Catturaugus with nice thin slicing blades as is evident by the tipped sheepsfoot blade. :(

Neat knife! Here's another interesting stockman from Cattaraugus.

Cattaraugus also made an interesting cattle knife with a "scribe" (large coping) blade in place of the sheepfoot. Queen or Schatt&Morgan made a similar cattle knife more recently.
