From Cattle Knife to Stockman!

 pattern right there Supratentorial. Now I'm wondering what "French" Pearl is............o_O

That's a nice 4-blade Catt, Dave!! Wonder when that one was made??

Nice Catalog cut, Jake. Do you think the blades are pictured in the wrong order??
Seems like the Sheepfoot should be behind the long Spey on that Spider Monkey!!
;)

The only ones that I've seen look like Dave's knife. I think the catalog is wrong. Usually the catalogs were extremely accurate but this is one example where it seems to be off... or maybe there was variation.

Now that I look at it again, it seems the Spey should be at the opposite end. The artist maybe drank a few too many Coca-Colas!!

Here's another evolution pair, made by Camillus. These are Juniors at about 3 3/8".
Both nice, useful knives, the Cattle, marked Syracuse Knife Company, is very well made with nice grinds and swedges and snappy half stops. Camillus is near Syracuse, maybe a suburb(?).
The Stockman sports the famous "Spiral" punch.

That caught my eye, too, Dave. I wondered if it was related to (or identical to) what I've heard called French Ivory.

Someone "cleaned" it but it looks like it might say "BESTEEL WARRANTED" which was a discount brand in the 1930s. EDIT: GOINS' says 1945-1960

The shield, and the "jimping" (?) on the back of the center liner look like Camillus/Imperial Schrade. Look at the shields on the two knives I posted above.

Charlie, I see the similarity in the shape of the shields. Also look at this other example from BESTEEL WARRANTED. Same shield and it has jimping but I don't have a good photo of the jimping.

Aaaand, now I have “Everyone’s talking” stuck in my head! Great Sowbeerlly! That ad cut was interesting: would there be any logical reason for a blade arrangement like that? Perhaps so the Punch and Sheep share the same spring, thereby allowing the Punch to be in the middle, and have full length blades?(i.e.- ones that use the entirety of the wells?
Thanks, Neal

The Cattaraugus ad? It's a good question. I'm not sure.

For clarification, it is nearly impossible to put a punch "in the middle".
The requirement for a straight back edge or "spine", and still access the blade, makes it necessary to place a punch on the outside of either the Mark or Pile side. Then you can still access the punch, but store it with the point below the edge of the handle.
I've never seen a punch elsewhere! Has anyone??
