Tornados have zero respect . . . we're all vulnerable.

Saw a picture similar to that on the Weather Channel. Not a roof standing.

Really feel for the neighborhood and those adversely affected.

This anywhere close to you?
About 90 miles away.

Dayum, Dubz. That's some serious sh....you folks have a storm shelter in the basement?

We have a basement, yes.

I don't know where the rest of them are made, but the X series of Gerber's are made in Finland and have a lifetime warranty, AFAIK. I have a hatchet and mid size axe, and people can give me grief about the "plastic" (actually fiber reinforced or glass filled nylon) haft all they want. Those things are tough and work great. Ask bladite. That's what he owns.

I have one of the Fiskars hatchets. The X7. I've beat the living hell out of this thing! Still going strong. I've rolled small spots on the edge, but it sharpens easy and gets nasty sharp. I didn't expect much when I bought it, but it really has surprised me. I've even thrown it like a tomahawk. It actually throws well.
I know it's not designed for that, but hey, it was cheap and I like having fun. Lol
There's a lot of value in these ugly little things.

Now I know what you all are thinking..."Is that a 6 in 1 screwdriver with a flame job on the handle?"
Yes.....yes it is.

Getting better with the recurve at 10 yards, kept them in a 4-5" grouping this time, 2 arrows in the "bullseye" 2 sets of shots the arrows were touching. I was so excited i hollered at the wife to come down to watch LMAO But i need an arm guard BAD the string rubbed my arm one time and hurt like hell, i got a red rash looking bruise half way down my arm now.

Super fun!!

Need to get out to an archery range so i can shoot at different ranges.
You need better technique, but an arm guard will suffice until that happens. Now, imagine that string is on a compound bow with a 70# peak draw weight that shoots arrows at around 230 feet per second...doesn't leave a red mark, leaves an instant bruise. Good thing yer learnin' with a recurve.

Don't be a sissy. Just keep at it and eventually you'll get a callus. :D

Yea thats what i want a callus up my arm :D

Good thing you weren't born an Amazon.

Tell me about it, but then my skin would just be thick anyway from all the bug bites!

Yea im guessing when you first started you had PERFECT technique  LMAO

Obviously i need better technique. Practice man, ill get there. Im learning all on my own and i have only shot 2 times in my life now...

WW I beat the crap outa my arm when I was learning to shoot. Then I learned how to not hit my arm. Then I didnt shoot for years and picked up a bow and snapped the holy hannah out of my arm ..lol
Its a muscle memory skill, you will get it, and as long as you use it semi regularly, you will keep it.

Cool project. I have a few old machetes I am saving to do the same thing to someday when I find the time. I REALLY like that baton!

I like it too! Made it out of a piece of root I dug up in the backyard. It was like it was grown just for this purpose. Its basically a caveman club lol.

Thanks man! I plan to do this regularly, I found a range thats about a half hour away so i plan to go to it soon. I am really liking it, its so much fun shooting and im still just in my basement, i can just imagine how much fun it will be outside.

Im thinking of selling one of my higher dollar knives just to get some proper arrows, bow case, arrow rest, plunger, bow square, glove, arm guard, and range membership.

I'm lmao cause I did the same thing....had to go get a guard while I re-learned for a week. Now I use it whenever i shoot just in case...and cause I don't shoot regularly enough.

I was just showing my girls some of the highlight videos from daizee's "office", there is some seriously cool stuff on there. If y'all got kids or you just like to see and learn about some neat creatures and geology, direct yourself here:

Beckerheads are just the coolest kids on BF, IMO....

Found a box of old tapes and now am getting some audio setup...my boss is gonna sell me a pair of BIG speakers tomorrow and a Technics receiver for what he got them for at a goodwill store. Already snagged a double deck tape player, ready to set up a "vintage" system in the living room. So stoked I called my mom and told her to bring me any tape she finds at her house before coming here to visit for the holidays.

Thanks for the press, GSOM. :D

Seriously, tho, it takes a huge team and a ton of work to bring that stuff to the world. It's a real joy to see people enjoy it without the hang-ups of it being work for them. BTW, GSOM, we regularly had sonar experts from UNH out here this summer. Part of our outreach initiative is to help make STEM jobs interesting to kids. We're a boat full of nerds, so if you're having trouble getting your kids to focus on math and science, just point 'em to our site. ;)
And you know what's ALSO cool??? Sailors dig knives!

Down here in Texas, we say "Even a blind HOG finds an acorn every now and then." Maybe that's cause we seem to have more hogs than squirrels.

I grew up in Wisconsin where Harleys are common as dirt and given away at birth. But we still had more squirrels than hogs. They are literally a pest species up there, second only to mosquitoes. Even field mice hate 'em and would shoot 'em on sight if they had thumbs to hold a shotgun properly.

I do not understand why there seem to be so few squirrels in TN or why they're so scrawny, especially since the winters are so short and my entire yard is ankle deep in acorns.

Wait... what?

You're welcome for the free press, I'd thank Derek as well; he was the one who posted the first link if I remember correctly. The team scrolls by as we were looking at different videos, and I caught the young lady who was the SNAP ambassador from Tabor. My late grandmother had a house down the street from Tabor in Marion, and my eldest has received info from there as well(wouldn't be going for a couple of years, if she does). She is doing pretty intense science at school (7th grade) and I was trying to explain some of the technology in the ROV to her while we were watching Hercules; she was astounded by the force feedback arm. Looked at through their eyes, it is really like sci-fi. My little one is learning about geology (3rd grade) and was loving the Kick 'em Jack vid', explaining all about how lava is different if it cools fast or slow. I understand that for you it's work, but since it isn't my job, I just get to enjoy the fascination of it all. Maybe they (we) will be able to meet you next year at the gathering. Have a safe journey home.

In NH we have only the motorized hogs, and there are probably enough squirrels to feed everybody, all the time without ever running out. Be thankful hogs can't get into your house; you should see the thousands of dollars of damage one of those little bastards can do if it falls through your chimney and tries to chew it's way out. Not to mention the house fires from them chewing on wires...
