G-shark's snarks (and other associated ramblings)

The idea there Gus is one edge for grassy stuff hooked to make life easier, and one edge for more limb type stuff, if I am not mistaken.

I gotta say, this is Snark, if anyone cant take a little heat from a 13 year old, than you probably shouldn't be in here ..lol. Personally I think other than being Hyper, which is completely age appropriate, MM is alright.

You guys gave me a hard time about being a "kid" when I came here so........ and this is snark Snark= snide+remark= snark. And thanks Silverthorn, You make me feel....Loved LOL

Agreed. Any thoughts on the overall proportions?

Its thin but WIDE so its still got good weight for power. Also the swollen front end and good length adds to that.
At that size coming in under 2 pounds seems pretty good. I bet it actually hits like a small axe, while not feeling as heavy or taxing to use as one. Just my thoughts on its design. I havent actually used one, and I am not an expert or anything.
By hits like a small axe, I mean chopping power. Clearly its not going to split like an axe.

I can't wait for him to meet his first truly pulchritudinous female...

What makes you say we can't take the heat? I got no problems with heat, especially from a 13 year old. And I have no problem with children in general, even if they're a little hyper. We were all children once, and as such should listen to what they have to say, as I do with my own kids. But I will not treat them as equals. There is too much of a life experience gap, and even if they know the meaning of the words, they'll never get the jokes....not until after they've had some life experience of their own. I'm not against MM being here on the forum, or even in the snark thread, I think most of the time it's refreshing; but I'm not going to stop being a cantankerous old man for any child. And I'll snark back, but only 'cause he asked nicely for it: "someone please snark me back";).

Yeah, sure seems like an impressive chopper - at least it seems that way in the vid (thanks for pointing that out Dubz).

I haven't seen B_Smithshoot around for awhile. Wonder what happened to him?

Man, I need some freakin' woods time. I need to find a job elsewhere, and move closer to some trees, haha.

yeah, get the hell away from tornado alley. Vermont is nice, I hear. Telecommute with those mad GIMP skills

My father in law wants the wife and I to have his summer home in Vermont, but we just can't afford it. Beautiful country up there, for sure, but work is scarce. I'm okay in GIMP, but not good enough to make a living at it.

"whether you think you can, or whether you think you can't, you're right" If I could only follow that advice myself....

I understand, but facts are facts. I can make stuff in GIMP, no doubt. But if a customer wanted something specific, I may not be able to do it. My business wouldn't last very long if I had to keep saying no, I can't do that, haha. Of course, a good salesman could always interest them in something else...:D

You think so? 'Cause at the present moment, I'm feeling like a cantankerous old curmudgeon.

So, per MM's dictionary ( I STILL haven't been able to get multi-quote to work right. :( ) You're feeling like a cantankerous old "bad-tempered, difficult, cantankerous person" . :D Interesting how you smoothly used the definition of the word as an adjective of the word itself. :D :D

"Take heat" from a thirteen-year-old child? Not gonna happen. I have pants older than that, never mind the scars. Giving a young'un free rein to sass adults is not good mentoring. I'm 100% with Mike/granitestateofmind on that topic.

Not to educate, but to add to the conversation of the thread. I wouldn't dare contradict (or ''school'') a adult that deserves my respect (If the adult in question is not at fault).

Fair enough. I advise you to exercise a great deal of restraint before deciding whether or not an adult "deserves" your respect or is "at fault", though. When in doubt, respect your elders. That mostly means shut your yap and open your ears. ;)

We met briefly at SMKW a few weeks ago, at the Ka-Bar booth with our friend Ethan. I liked you right off... you're obviously a very bright young man. I was frankly impressed with the quality and depth of the questions you were asking.

But you're still a kid, and you're in a "room" or conversation with grown-ups who have decades of experience in these matters... and some of whom make their living at it. Keep that in mind.

Thoughts?

I've never used one, I'm just looking at the pic and specs. It makes a lot of sense as a yardwork/pruning tool. Likely very effective in thick cover, too. Thin and wide is a good thing for a tool like that. I like the fact that it's not over-long and probably not over-heavy, and therefore easy to carry and use in a tight spot. It appears that it would be very useful for clearing a campsite, and cutting stuff for a lean-to or debris shelter. I do not understand the "tip" design.

great thing about a computer interaction - they can't see you sweat . I know what you mean though. I should find a new job, my company doesn't treat me as well as I think they should after 19 years but I'm afraid that I'm overwhelmingly underqualified to do anything else.

He's a BF dealer. Here's a link: http://www.baryonyxknife.com/baryonyx.html

~The broad blade (4.6" at its widest point!) concentrates mass directly behind the cutting edge to generate massive, axe-like chopping power--making quick work of even the heaviest targets!

~The back hook holds light, flexible materials against the cutting edge, cutting like a scythe through grasses and brambles.

~When held with the hook forward, the weight of the blade is trailing behind the swing, helping to generate the velocity needed for effective cutting of light targets!

~The point of the hook may be used as a pick for chipping ice or loosening soil!

~The "V" between the two edges may be used as an extension of the arm to push brush out of your way!

~The un-edged spine of the point provides a striking surface for batoning the Baryonyx to split wood, and doubles as a handhold for use as a draw knife!

~All un-edged parts of the blade are rounded for comfort in a variety of grips!

~The long handle allows for a two-handed grip for when increased chopping power is needed, and is symmetrical so that either edge may be held facing forward depending on the needs of the operator!
