G-shark's snarks (and other associated ramblings)

When there's snow and/or ice on the roads, you will NOT find zzyzzogeton's fuzzy tail on them. I am firmly in the camp that believes that snow belongs in a snow cone and ice belongs in a glass.

Snow and ice means stay at home and work in the shop. Or sleep.

That's generally a good idea but being essential personnel means I don't get snow days. I like snow wheeling, as long as there's another truck to pull me out if I get stuck.

I bet it would take 9 months and the blade would end up all squiggly.

LMAO!

Its the weekend!!!!!!! Happy weekend and the last weekend before Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!!

Know ones snarking at this time, please try again at a later time thank you! :(

Not for me. I was supposed to have a four day weekend but I picked up three OT shifts. Plus I have to work on turkey day. Not a huge deal since I'd be spending it alone anyway.

Maybe it was every time you snark yourself, God kills a kitten? Either way, that man is playing with fire every night.

If it's true that cats die from self snarking then I'm gonna light this place up as soon as ya'll go to bed.

Anybody seen this?

the-baryonyx-machete-5.gif

Here are the specs:
Overall Length: 23 and 1/4""
Blade Length: 16"
Steel: 1075 High Carbon
Thickness: 2.2mm
Weight: 1lb 10oz

Thoughts?

In the videos it looks like a good performer but it just looks to large to pack around. Maybe if I had land to clear but I don't think I'd be bringing it on outings. 42B knows his machetes though.

The idea there Gus is one edge for grassy stuff hooked to make life easier, and one edge for more limb type stuff, if I am not mistaken.

That's about right if I recall. The guy really knows blades and put a lot of thought into the design.

So, per MM's dictionary ( I STILL haven't been able to get multi-quote to work right. :( ) You're feeling like a cantankerous old "bad-tempered, difficult, cantankerous person" . :D Interesting how you smoothly used the definition of the word as an adjective of the word itself. :D :D
Click the "+ button all the way to the right for every quote you want to add until the last one, then click " Reply With Quote - that will put them all into one reply. And yes, I was being a little redundant, but disguising it with 25¢ words....

It makes a lot of sense as a yardwork/pruning tool. Probably very effective in thick cover, too. I like the fact that it's not over-long, and therefore easy to carry and use in a tight spot. It appears that it would be very useful for clearing a campsite, and cutting stuff for a lean-to or debris shelter. I do not understand the "tip" design.

Thanks for the feedback James. I have same concerns about the tip. Perhaps someone else can shed some light.

I quit being "essential personnel" after the computer manufacturer whose name rhymes with "hell" laid me off and sent my (and many other people's) job to China. Liked my job, but the mangler's were clueless. Most of them were "internal promotes" and knew about as much about managing as a dead duck knows about astrophysics.

"Take heat" from a thirteen-year-old child? Not gonna happen. I have pants older than that, never mind the scars. Giving a young'un free rein to sass adults is not good mentoring. I'm 100% with Mike/granitestateofmind on that topic.

Fair enough. I advise you to exercise a great deal of restraint before deciding whether or not an adult "deserves" your respect or is "at fault", though. When in doubt, respect your elders. That mostly means shut your yap and open your ears. ;)

But you're still a kid, and you're in a "room" or conversation with grown-ups who have decades of experience in these matters... and some of whom make their living at it. Keep that in mind.
Well stated, sir.

Thank you. That is a very clear explanation. The PTB oughtta replace their instructions on how to multi-quote with this.

I understand, but facts are facts. I can make stuff in GIMP, no doubt. But if a customer wanted something specific, I may not be able to do it. My business wouldn't last very long if I had to keep saying no, I can't do that, haha. Of course, a good salesman could always interest them in something else...:D

Hey Dubz,

So here's a question for you. How long would it take to improve/expand your gimp skills? Remember, you don't have to deliver everything for every client. And if someone wants something you can't instantly produce, look at it as a learning opportunity and also a chance to expand your marketable skill set.

That's what I said....kind of. But with less words, and with no eloquence. Thank you for your salient assessment, Gus.

Well, one always improves, but I'm not on it all the time. Someone asked me the other day for a sig, and I had to think about how to make one again, haha. I wouldn't be interested in making a living doing that anyways. I would rather make stuff with my hands and sell it. Stay tuned...

~The point of the hook may be used as a pick for chipping ice or loosening soil!
~The "V" between the two edges may be used as an extension of the arm to push brush out of your way!

Cool. I'm not convinced of the necessity of that feature, but OK! I've cut a lot of stuff! And dug a lot of holes! And chipped a lot of ice! And pushed a lot of stuff out of my way! Never felt the need for a special V-shaped tip for any of it! Sounds like Marketing Hype! To me! But hey! Whatever works for them!

:p

Regardless of the baloney-sausage, I do think the overall design looks smart and useful.

Well stated, sir.

Like a blind squirrel finding an acorn, every now and then I manage to string words together in a way that makes some sort of sense. :D

well, almost 900 posts. might as well close this thread...

I was not being facetious, Gus. I think you said it better. I was being self-deprecatory, I thought....no hard feelings, tho. It is the snark thread.

Hey GSOF! Thanks for the kind words, but I really think you also nailed it with your post. Sometimes the tone is lost in the internet ether! :) Definitely no hard feelings!

Ahhhh...You guys are so sweet.
Next thing I know you'll be reminising with Kalua and cream cocktails down at Hot Rodz "bar & grill".
:D
