Gareth bull: Slow Delivery/waitlist thread

Has this maker taken any money for these orders ?

If not I would move on to another maker, or just wait. Nothing else you can do. I do feel your frustration though.

If he has taken money I feel your frustration much more so, and hope you will get your money back or the knives very soon.
Good luck.

He has taken my payment in full and others partially. Some don't have any money invested at all.

He has a deposit from me.

Ouch ! I'm very sorry to hear that.

I'll never understand why some custom makers take money down before the knife is ready. IMO a good maker should be able to afford the cost of the knife materials.
I can understand a deposit if one was wanting ingraving, or something else that would make it hard for the maker to sell if a problem arose with the buyer.

If they are going to take money up front, and especially so when they take full payment such as with wolf5391, they really need to meet their deadline.

Very sorry you guys are having to wait so long.
Good luck, and I hope you start getting your knives soon.

I'm starting to get worried. Even back when he was responding to my emails regularly I asked him multiple times for a picture or my knife and he ignored the request, makes me think my knife doesn't even exist at this point.

I'm going to send him an infraction, that should make it's way to him. I hate doing this, but enough is enough. No communication is not acceptable.

I just received a short email from him. He didn't discuss my order status but did discuss that he just moved, and answered a question I had sent him 2 weeks ago about the availability of another knife he had.

edit he followed up with a second email saying my knife should be done next week.

This is reading just like the "Early warning signs of knife purchasing trouble" sticky in this section of the forum.

Hopefully Gazza will sort his demons and come through with what he owes.

Larry

I have had on order with Gazza since January: Large Warlock in Blue G-10, M390 blade, Flat Ground. And the fixed blade version of the Warlock in Carbon Fiber and M390.

I wasn't in a big hurry. But part of me almost doesn't want anything now with all the trouble I have seen people having. I think Gazza is a great guy, and I love his work. I am not angry in the least.

If it were me though, I would prioritize everyone's work in this thread over anything else. Since they are the public, openly airing concerns. I can only hope everyone in this thread is still not fifty people out on the list.

ETA: I also did not make any sort of down payment.

Hi all

Long past time for an update, I'll try cover everything.

Firstly, working through the backlog:
As Wolf mentioned, I recently moved - part of the reason was I was in a small complex and they felt a workshop was not a fitting thing to have in the garage. They sent me a cease and desist letter asking that I move my machinery and submit to an inspection of the premesis. I have settled into my new address and the workshop is up and running again. Internet and telephone will take a few more days to be connected, until then, internet access is very limited.

The snowball of the backlog is bewildering but I'm working in batches to maximise the time while I have the machine set for each job. I'm hoping this will help me clear the list fastest.

As far as taking deposits, put down to naiivity. I had a massively successful group buy where I took deposits to cover the materials and the remainder upon completion. All went well and I just kept the sysyem. In hindsight I regret taking the deposits as it makes the customer feel like they've stuck their neck out. I can assure you I WILL ultimately make good on my obligations either through refund if requested or completing the order. I was working on a 50% deposit, in Wolf's case I think it suited to pay all at once, definitely not my norm. In future I will only be accepting payment for completed knives, again hindsight is 20/20.

Finally, let me reiterate my sincerest apologies to the knife community at large, mods, makers and most importantly my clients, it's not my intention to jerk chains, thanks for all the patience shown, it really is appreciated.

Regards
Gareth Bull

Thank you for stopping in, we appreciate knowing you're doing well and letting folks know you are still working things out.

I've been keeping up with this thread for a long time now. I think you guys are awesome for keeping the faith and your patience is admirable. It's a good thing GB has such fine customers. I'd have been freaking out by now.

Good luck to all of you, and GB as well.

If gareth was a jerk I woulda been raising hell. The good thing is that he has been nothing but a gentleman to me, and I understand fully how things like this work so I gave him the benefit of the doubt and I am glad I did. It takes a lot for someone to come here and apologize for hiccups and short comings. Here's to getting our knives soon and hoping to be able to get our hands on more of his work in the future!

I have talked to Gazza, and he seems to have a game plan for getting our knives in our hands.

at this point I think patience is the best answer.

He has owned up to what is going on and that takes a lot! Its a huge step in the right direction.

I will keep all of you updated as well and thanks for keeping this thread civil :)

Thanks for the update--really sorry you had to move shop and get everything all set up again. Frankly, I'm not worried at all. From what I've seen, Gazza builds phenomenal knives, with a great eye for craftsmanship. And although there have been lapses in communication, GB has been a gentleman in response and I admire his forthrightness about the circumstances. There are growing pains in any business, and I am okay continuing to support your knife making through this process. Keep working to make great knives, and know that you have folks who believe in your talents and are supporting your business as you build it.

Cheers,
Daniel

I agree. If more people responded to questions from buyers/sellers/traders on this forum in an open, honest and positive manner we'd see far less "bad" and "ugly".

I have no skin in the game so I'll bow out of the thread. Again, good luck with everything, all of you.

Thanks Gazza for the response! I am patient I can wait :). Hope the move went smooth.

This sorta thing can happen with sellers in the U.S., of course, but this is a good example of why I prefer not to buy from abroad if I can help it. You're left just hoping the seller holds up his end of the bargain, and distance doesn't help.
