Gareth bull: Slow Delivery/waitlist thread

Not me--but I haven't reached out. I figure waiting patiently is the best move at this point, unless you'd rather receive a refund than a knife.

yah I understand and I feel the same way but a little comms wouldn't hurt anyone.

Seems like he's missing communication and business skills . Discussions are also on SAblade.com .It's always sad to see this very nice knives but that's all there is.

He should have an internet connection by now. So either he is ignoring all of us and don't want to face the consequences or he is working very hard to finish all the knifes. I don"t know what to think of him. I checked his facebook page, this thread and the one on SAblade.com everyday hoping he will explain this mess.

I e-mailed a couple days ago, with no response back yet.

One would hope that if he's making knives there would be some positive feedback either here or on SABlades.

Larry

I GOT A RESPONSE FROM GARETH.
He said he had his internet connection working and that he will send my knife and another one (for someone in Australia) on Friday.
I will keep you updated on Friday if he delivers of fail again.

But It is a very good sign.

Hi All

My sincerest apologies for the latest drop-off. In a nut-shell we moved house easily enough but moving the line was far, far harder. I use a second party ISP and at first I didn't know I needed to "migrate" the ADSL to the telephone company before the line could be moved. Eventually found that out and only then did the moving premises clock start running - up to 21 working days to install the new line and only then could I migrate back, another 5-10 working day wait. As such, internet has just gone live here so I've been wading through emails - I do think I've gotten everybody that was unread, I will continue updates this afternoon as well.

Now, in the spirit of honesty, as some of you may well know (not sure if it was mentioned here, but it was on the SA forum), I have had my KGSA membership revoked due to complaints (justified complaints) against me. This does not mean I will stop making knives and, certainly not mean I will allow these orders to fall by the way-side. I fully intend to meet my obligations and put the absolute best knives I can make into my customers' hands.

As for knives moving out, it looks like things are going to be a little less rough for the foreseeable future so I will be able to spend far more time in the shop getting your orders out.

I appreciate that this thread has not turned into a bash-fest, I'm hoping to turn it into a positive one by posting photo updates and hopefully those on the list will chime in as they are "ticked off" (the good ticked-off!).

Thanks and Regards
Gareth Bull

Thanks for the update, Gazza, and I hope things are settling down a bit for you there so you can get back into a solid routine. Everybody has a story, and we tend not to know about all kinds of things that can get in the way, slow work down, etc. It sounds like you've encountered a few obstacles, but you'll get over them.

For my part, I'm sorry about the bumps you've encountered, including having the KGSA membership revoked, but it hasn't altered my view that you are an excellent knife maker, nor has it produced any doubts I have about your ability to eventually send out a really good product. So keep on working, and I look forward to more pictures and updates (and hopefully a knife too!).

Cheer,
Daniel

It was great to get emails from you this morning, and I'm glad things are slowly coming together on your end. Maybe the ride will be smoother from this point forward.

Your work speaks for itself Gazza. However, not much can be done to quell the effects of collective whining, and I am sad to hear about the revocation of your membership to that SA club. Just keep putting out those masterpieces and things will sort themselves out in the long run, I am sure of it. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

I wouldn't call it whining... People are just in there complaints.

However I ultimately believe Gareth is working on it and will see things through.

Also if you have an order which I'm assuming you do, I would like your order date and what you ordered for the OP list

Whining? Surely you jest.

I have followed this thread, and the linked one, for months now. I have been amazed how calm and patient Bull's customers are.

Some makers have delivery waitlists of a couple years or more even after their books are closed. I know I'm on the list for several custom makers here in the US and Canada, and it's been almost 2 years. If I get them soon, that's cool. If not, it's not like I'm out any money on my end of things. Now I've also gotten a custom within weeks of an order, but that's because the maker already had the knife waiting for the custom specs. Each maker is different, and many might make knives full time, and others might not. Bottom line is, life gets in the way of things and not having a knife delivered on time is among the least of my concerns. As with my toys, whether it's a firearm, engine, or a knife, I don't want whoever is working on it to feel like they're being rushed. They're not critical to my daily routine.

i understand that.
but those makers probably answer you back when you send them emails.
you know that your knife is being made.
with Gareth there are still doubts.
yes, i also have a knife supposedly being made by Gareth Bull but i don't hear from him in months.
mine is probably in the making for longer than anyone here!

Gazza you said you replied to everyone but i'm still waiting.
this is the first time i post on this 16 page thread because you've always been so cool when we talked so, please, reply to my emails.

I agree with this--I put my name on another maker's list, received acknowledgment, and likely won't hear from him again for a couple years until my name comes up and he can build the knife. The only difference with Gazza is that he accepted some payment (partial or full) for some of these knives. I chalk that up to inexperience and the initial process of building a business. I'm not out any amount of money that is going to produce hardship (after all, I don't really need these knives), so it's not good grounds for complaint from my view.

mantzao--I haven't received any direct replies from Gareth either, but then again I haven't emailed in a long time.

Cheers,
Daniel
