Gareth bull: Slow Delivery/waitlist thread

If he woulda got the knives done at the right time he would have a lot of money from payments. Now he owes more for refunds

At this point I think its money issues.

He has said he is trying to sell a shard per week to fund shop costs. Well, he hasn't sold any shards and he hasn't made or shipped out any knives that we know of recently.

Its not a matter of him making them because hes already proven that he can crank out about 10 knives in 2 weeks (for the guild show last year).

Its either he has lost interest in making them or money issues have got in the way. I doubt its the first option.

However he may feel drowned by his backlog.

Either way I want an update and ultimately my warlock.

I received one of his Shards , from date of purchase not even a week before delivery , so yes he can deliver quickly with the right ahem , motivation .... Still patiently waiting for my Shamwari no need to put me on the list just thought I would chime in ....

I'm not sure what to say or even what to think anymore. I keep coming back to this thread for any signs of progress or positive news only to be disappointed each and every time. Analogous to a slow death spiral...

All right, guys. I've had enough.

None of us, on his own, has a case worth hearing by the authorities in South Africa. As a group, though, we will be able to gain their attention.

I will provide them links for this thread and the one at SABlade, but simply pointing toward a list of forum complaints probably won't do the job, so I've set up a dedicated email address — GarethBullCase@gmail.com — for gathering information. If you would like to be included, please send a note with your name, how much of your money and/or materials Gareth has taken, and when.

I hate that it has come to this. I don't see any other option.

Gareth's latest update:

Hi all

Sorry for any and all stress on my behalf. Things have been a whirlwind at the moment. I was contacted by a couple people to get onto the forums and update.

I will give a full account this evening, with pics but a quick catch up now is in order.

Yesterday I collected my father, he's free for a couple months and will be assisting me in the shop, taking care of the donkey work and freeing me up to do the grinding/fine shaping and fitting. This way I'll be able to push out knives fast without sacrificing quality.

As far as this past month, I have seen some grinder time, but family matters have demanded most of my time, my better half is coming to the end of her pregnancy and unfortunately there have been some major health scares so a lot of time has been spent at the hospital. All is ok right now but it looks like the little guy will be here a couple weeks early as a safety precaution. Right now mum and sprog are OK though.

Rick, you're welcome to come round, will PM now. There is a bit of toi-toiing blocking the road right now but the police are here so it should be clear any time now.

Further feedback from the same thread :

As I said this month has been slow by what I wanted to acheive but there was still work done. I've been waiting to get cash in to cover the engineers bill and have collected the proper sized standoffs so folders will be going out now. Only 10 standoffs right now but I plan to do an elf and shoemaker type production and get more every time. Would have been more but I needed to replace my kiln thermocouple - also a completed task so no problem.

Anyways, they supposedly speak a thousand words so here's a shot of my workbench.

He hasn't done anything to deserve the benefit of the doubt or customers to come to his defense. He will never be an honest businessman now - the best he can hope for is a business that is currently in good standing, but might go off the grid again at any time, and he's a long way from even getting to there. Until the people owed knives start getting them consistently, he's basically a criminal. Promises, pictures, sob stories, and nothing else is worth the bandwidth it takes up at this point. I would continue pursuing legal action until I got my knife. It seems like a class action lawsuit is the only thing that inspires communication (which he still thinks is all you guys want) - make it clear that you want what you paid for, and his usual offering of a picture and promise is no longer an acceptable substitute for the goods you've already paid for. He made the promise that he was running a producing business at full steam when he took all these deposits. Working here and there, and producing a fraction of what he needs to (and selling most of them on the street at a discount to get cash in hand) isn't an acceptable response.

All I want to know is, is one of those knives on your bench my small LSCF Shamwari?

Looks like there is some CF in the bottom left corner of the pic if it helps

yes I see carbon fiber but if you zoom in on it it does not look like lightning strike.

I could be wrong but the one picture looks like the regular weave.

He may have more scales further left of the picture but from what I see there is no lightening strike.

Got email from Gareth. Mine should be done tomorrow. Hopefully shipped as well. I'll get you guys an update

It's been said a thousand times on this forum.
You should not be paying a maker up front to make you a knife. A deposit to secure your order, possibly, but never, ever, pay in full until your order is completed and ready to ship. Only when a maker has a proven and golden track record of keeping his promises and timetables, should a customer even consider paying up front in full.

All those knives on the table and he finishes one tomorrow? I would think it would be one batch finished. Wonder who else was in that batch if it was indeed a batch. I sent him an e-mail (last one in December) to find out what the deal is. Have to wait on a response and hope for the best.

Nope but I actually like it more than the older clips. Looks like it rides deeper in the pocket which I prefer

I like the older clips better, but if this is all he has access to right now I'll take it. 3 hole designs are very easy to get a hold of.

looks good though, let us know when it ships/when you get it.
