GEC 2023 #87 English Jack

The Hummingbird Acrylic #87 came in today. Fit and finish is spot on; I really like the acrylic. The pull on the pen blade is nice; it’s a little soft on my Brazilian Cherry. I also like that the master blade is not etched on this one. Another home run for GEC in my opinion.

Grats! absolutely stunning

Someone has a I say it….the royal blue acrylic is not what I expected. I would call it lavender powder puff acrylic. The church glass as always looks wonderful though. When I think of royal blue, I think of the Kansas City Royals Baseball uniforms from the 90’s. Being from New England I’m not sure if they still wear the same colors. Anyway, I’m impatiently waiting to see the jigged bone covers….will go great alongside the new Remington.

Where did you see the Royal Blue?

I think the blue is hot and am looking forward to getting one.

yes id love it more if it came in a single blade. it has removed the need to buy a 65 to file down that bolster finally.

I think they just had a few leftover cases of those purple acrylic chips they sprinkled in the church glass mixture…

It certainly looks blue to me. I have worked with color my whole career, and I'm not picking up any of the red you are referring to. Being an acrylic I'm sure lighting and viewing angles will change the color perceptions.

Here is just a quick comparison of some common Royal Blues vs GEC colors.

The GEC colors are a bit warmer but definitely still more blue than purple. Also these colors are sampled from their photo so the lighting in that photo can certainly be skewing the colors warmer or cooler... especially compared to colors picked from digital color swatches. And, given that the GEC photos appear to be taken indoors in not great lighting, I'd bet their camera was compensating the white balance by making the colors warmer.

Nice, it will definitely be interesting to experience in person, in daylight.

I almost wish they didn't made a bone version so I could get me an acrylic one. Though still had to see those bones first. I just don't buy multiples of the same batch, only choose one I like the most. The only exception so far were Bunny Knife and Old Sheffield jack, because I consider Bunny to be a separate special version.

Haha man I am the same way. When they do a knife in multiple covers I really like I end up wishing they had done just one of them so I didn't have to choose. My one exception was the Beer & Sausage knife because I wanted the micarta for a no-worry user but that dang Autumn Leaf Jigged Bone was just TOO gorgeous to not get as well. I definitely consider the Bunny Knife and Sheffield Jack to be different knives IMO too.

I have a royal blue on early reserve with CK. I think it looks nice, though I’m partial towards blues.
