GEC 25s - Gots 'em?

That's one helluva giveaway! Congrats on winning that Will! That's a rare beauty for sure...

What I meant was that there are, by far, a lot more sheepies in circulation than drop points, so it will be much easier to locate one than a drop point, which is why I'm looking for a sheepsfoot. If you know of someone looking to sell a sheepsfoot (especially an elk ez open) let me know, unless you want to relinquish that drop point of yours

Appreciate that Sugarleaf  Where are those Wharncliffes eh??? I was extremely lucky to win this knife in a GAW and I've been thrilled with it since. Despite its relative rarity, I wanted to use and carry it and it gets out a lot, no more mint in the tube I'm afraid!:D

Regards, Will

My favorite

Another fine looker. The sheepsfoot blade looks (and works) great in this frame; I especially love its lines when the blade is open.

(Thread bumped to encourage any others with #25s to contribute, with newer acquisitions or updated photographs of previously-shown knives. :))

I really like that single blade. I just picked up a 26 Little Carver off the exchange last week. I am very happy with the size, fit and finish. I think I would like the 25 pattern. Now, I am watching for a single blade 25 in bone or stag. Of course, I am watching for numerous knives...ridiculous, really. However, this is enjoyable.

Really jealous of that Barlow sugerleaf, where ever did you find it? I have a particular fondness for the Barlow 25s.

A friend sold it to me out of his own collection. It took some prodding and I definitely ponied up the $$ for it...

Are the 25 barlows really that rare these days? I guess I haven't kept up with them.

That's a well prodded 25 indeed! Great grab :)

Thank you Sir!

No, I don't think that they are at all rare. I think it's just that they haven't run 25 Barlows in a while and so over time, they kind of get lost in peoples collections and you don't see them come up for sale as frequently. Like any other knife that you search for, it's either pay a little extra to get it now, or take your time and wait for one that pops up for a good price. When I say "I ponied up", I don't mean I paid an unreasonable amount. I just mean that I paid a little more than they sold for new, which in my book, is ponying up when you are talking about a knife that is not particularly rare, just moreso, a little more difficult to locate due to production date.

Not necessarily. For someone on a remote Scottish island they're pretty rare. How are you Dan, I PMed you a while back, you doing ok?

Thank you Sir!

Evilbay vendors tend to hear 'Outer Hebrides, Scotland' then change their mind. I have been lucky with some generous forumites in the past, but tend to miss them on the exchange. I don't do a job where I can necessarily check it that frequently.

It's great to see them so popular again, I've always thought of them as an acquired taste in the GEC hamper; I think they're delicious :)

Yes, I can imagine having an affinity for collecting GEC's where you're located can be much more challenging. I rarely go to ebay to purchase knives because I find for the most part, they are well overpriced. I think the exchange here on the forum is the best place to find knives at reasonable, and often times, at great prices. I didn't mean to be misleading in saying that I "ponied up" for the blue barlow, in fact, I am very happy with the purchase and what I paid for it (obviously I was happy! Otherwise I wouldn't have bought it :) I personally like the 25 pattern quite a bit, but I think, possibly the reason they aren't more widely collected, may be, perhaps the ratio of size of knife compared to cost makes the 25 pattern seem to be a less of a value? Maybe people are more reluctant to pay the same amount for a knife that is smaller in size, so in general in the grander scheme of the GEC lineup, the 25's don't represent as a "big bang for your buck" type knife? Just a guess...

OOohhh, that blue acrylic is gorgeous! You're reeling in some amazing catches, Al! Well done!

Thanks Dan!! Yeah, I've been on a pretty good run as of late, thanks to some really kind folks, most of all, yourself!! The Blue Oyster 25 was definitely a find. A 1 of 11 from a short run as I understand it. Enjoy your day Dan and so great to hear your daughter is doing well!!!

Thanks bud! You're most welcomed. I really need to dig out my one remaining 25 and get a decent picture of it!

Wow again! A two blade wharncliffe Barlow 25. A rare find. Once again, I'm jealous. I'm going to have to turn my interest elsewhere. I'm just torturing myself watching this thread ;)

Thanks pmew! I saw the green jigged bone barlow you posted a photo of in another thread. That is a fine specimen! Would love to see a group photo of your 25's if you have one.
