GEC 25s - Gots 'em?

...Congrats on the new addition P! Your collection is amazing. Thanks for the WSLT inspiration. That's a very nice and generous gift LastRodeo!

Can't argue with any of this!
Sarah, your obvious enthusiasm for your WLST is contagious. :D Thanks for sharing your joy!
Last Rodeo, kudos on your generous gift that got her geeked about her collection and busy "clicking, clacking, and comparing.":thumbup:

I agree! It's been so fun to see Sarah's collection rearranged and reconsidered. And what a beauty that gift is, LastRodeo. You are wonderful.:thumbup::D

And Paul, such a nice collection! You've already got a lovely variety there.

The sun came out earlier today, so I have a few pictures of my little beauties. I'm not happy with the pictures, so will work on that later.

Here's the first one I found, #17 Red Jigged Bone (those of you who know the red bone will know the color is off in this photo).

I hadn't planned to get acrylics, but found a couple I loved. This #22 Northern Lights:

And a Granite acrylic, not serialized. It's a clip with a pen, but the photo I took with the blade out was an abomination :o

One of my favorites at the moment, an unserialized Buffalo Horn:

And with apologies to a great little knife for a washed out photo (Wharncliffe main, also unserialized):

I have a Frontier Bone, too, but the photo made it look like it was covered with scratches, so I'll wait to post a picture of that one.

I am so surprised I've been able to find these. Hurrah! :D

Pmew - nice lineup of Barlows! I especially like the horsecut and the pen behind the main...:thumbup:

Blackbrit - nice lineup! I noticed you're in NW Wa, whereabouts Bellingham area? I'm in western WA too! Did you catch that hawks game today? Wow!!

WOW!! Very nice knives, Blackbrit! I especially like the looks of the granite acrylic and the horn and stag barlows.:thumbup:

Nice Bullet.

Haven't been able to track one down yet. Or, I've just missed them...

They came and went right quickly when released, and I've seen few of them foraging away from the pack since then-- hard to pick off, even for an experienced hunter. Good luck. :)

These little dudes are guillotines on closing.

Oh nice-- the easy-open notches, the nickless sheepsfoot blades, and the always-winning acorn shield (I like its proportions better on this small knife than on larger patterns.) Mighty fine.

A beautiful collection, Sarah! I never tire of your WLSTs. Wonderful little jewels is what they are! What a great thread full of eye candy!

Thanks! I am happy and surprised that so many #25s continue to appear, and am grateful for everyone who keeps this thread rolling so we can see them.

Beautiful new #25, Sarah! Many of these I was never even aware of. I like focus and you have plenty of that! Love seeing all the variations in handles and shields. I only have a little Tidioute ebony remaining in my humble collection but I love it! GEC built these with such precision that I can't let it go.

I'll repeat myself: "If you can only have one...?"
(Alert readers will notice that there are many fine, fine knives worthy of being "My Only #25.":D)

A few of mine
Northfield25s.jpg

Now, there's focus. Tremendous stag grouping. What's the stag handle width like on the Little Jack (lower right)?

Pertinux - your collection inspired me to begin mine, it's a pleasure to see them :)

cccxiv - lovely groop of stags. I am particularly envious of your sfo wharncliffe barlow abomination :)

Thanks, Paul! But you're not referring to cccxiv's #25 Wharncliffe, above, correct...? Because that one's Realz®.

Meanwhile, you've been busy! I don't know if I remember your garnering a Horsecut Antique, especially. Congrats.

Goodness Paul, that stag example is fantastic!:thumbup::eek:

It's one of the best examples of stag I've seen, in itself and in how well-suited it is to the knife.

Thank you, GT, and your echoing back the effects of Last Rodeo's gift make me happy all over again. :)

The sun came out earlier today, so I have a few pictures of my little beauties.

Thanks so much! [Almost] any picture is a great starting point, and I appreciate your posting up your knives here. Wowzer, have you found some great #25s. I'm glad you like 'em. :)

If I recall correctly, the HME Granite is not the same material widely used and described as "acrylic," but something-something-Epoxy? Is the knife heavier than the others? Very classy looking material.

I am so surprised I've been able to find these. Hurrah! :D

Me, too! Well done.

WOW!! Very nice knives, Blackbrit! I especially like the looks of the granite acrylic and the horn and stag barlows.:thumbup:

Blackbrit - nice lineup! I noticed you're in NW Wa, whereabouts Bellingham area? I'm in western WA too! Did you catch that hawks game today? Wow!!

Yes, Sugarleaf, I was watching the game - even as friends left to clean their kitchens rather than watch the debacle. I stayed...and that last three minutes, and the overtime; it was extraordinary. Heaven knows what was going on earlier in the game as they were virtually unrecognizable as the Seahawks we've been watching. When the comeback started I scared the dog with my joyous yelling. And he's a gun dog, made excited by the sounds of hunting game. I guess the difference is that I keep my mouth shut at those time. Poor guy! My daughter had to take him outside until the game was over. :D (Sincere apologies in advance to the many here who don't share my feelings about the Hawks.)

And I'm in NW NC now. I won't get back to the PNW until sometime in June. My work keeps me in this beautiful corner of NC, but my roots and all my family are in the Seattle area - mostly north: Camano Island and into the San Juans. I am fortunate in my "NW's" both Washington State and North Carolina.:thumbup:

Are you in Bellingham? I've good friends there, and of course the convenient REI there is hard to beat!

Thanks, 5K Qs I debated about whether I wanted the granite; while the horn, which has a spear point which wasn't at the top of my list for blades, just had to come live at my house as soon as I knew it was available. I don't know why, but I love carrying it, and the spear has really grown on me. Meanwhile, the granite, with its fluted UN-X-LD shield would, I thought be a bit much with the bolsters on each end. Yet in person it is beautifully balanced in appearance. It's quite striking and reminds me of some of the beautiful old knives that are being shown over here by our fellow slip joint friends (beautiful old NY Knife Co examples, many in dark bone and ebony, with that contrast between shield, bolsters, and handle material): It's over here.

I understand this well now, ~P. Each one is so different, but the same in it's strong, stubby little goodness. Now that I have several I get to decide which is my favorite... today! :D The first, my red jig bone with it's sheepfoot main is a sentimental favorite because she was first...(Knives are "she's" aren't they, like boats? :p )

Yes, I'm sure you are correct that it is "hand mixed epoxy" I think that is what it was called. But no, oddly, it doesn't feel heavier. But epoxy is so light on it's own. So I don't know. I have a good kitchen scale. I may do a little experiment to weigh them and see.

Ahem. That would be, Ambrosia.

Thank you, ~P, for the inspiration. :D

Oh, just a little stag, a little EO, a little UN-X-LD...

Sounds wonderful! I will look forward to the pictures. :D

Meanwhile I have to figure out how to get better pictures. The Northern Lights acrylic has me stumped. It's one of those cover materials like some of the woods: it has a lot of depth that is hard to capture in photographs. Now your upcoming stag...that will be quite different. I am sure it will show it's depth without any coaxing from the photographer.:cool:

That made me laugh out loud in the privacy of my office. :D I admit to having a relatively undiscriminating palate; I can't tell these various beverages apart. I also can't explain why these little knives fascinate me so, even after I've decided that I'll probably never get one.:eek::confused:

Lol, I was referring to that one, oops!

I'm afraid I'm the reason that Dan has no #25s at the minute. I hypnotised him and he sent me the horsecut - thanks again Dan!

I am presently 25-less, but that shall be remedied later this week. :D

Cool Dan! Looking forward to some photos!

Yeah, that game was such a downer for 3 1/2 quaters! But man, what an incredible ending that made it all worth it. That has got to be the ugliest and prettiest NFC title game all rolled up into one!

No, I'm not in Bellingham either. I love it up there and have friends that live up there but I've mostly lived in Seattle. I'm now in the burbs in Maple Valley on 18 acres... Big change from the city... I love the San Juans! My sister owns a home on San Juan Island. I love it there!

Sorry folks for getting off topic! Back to the WSLT's...
