My doggit and I finally made it back to the woods, our first hike up a favorite nearby trail since last fall.

I've been carrying this one for a few days. Really enjoying it.

Sorry, P. I didn't want to make you look at this like that!
It was just a trial for me as a hobby-knife-modder,
to make some kind of "aged" jigged bone handle .

Your sunny picture and knife is great, what kind of bone handle is this?

"Blue knife and purple dog thong - a classic combo!

This page was worth reading for these two quotes. I'm grinning out loud

Beautiful. You will find they have an uncanny way of multiplying!

I love the Acorn shield!

Lovely pieces - the acorn shield 25 still eludes me, along with the extremely rare drop point versions. Keep a tight grip of them my friend!

☺

Would Nix and Nox ever make it up on a hike? Nice shots P~

1) Yes and no-- Nix and Nox [beloved felines, for the rest of you] could easily make it up, but would probably scatter hither and yon once outside. I'd love an enclosed wilderness dome for them, for us to all explore together without fear of losing anyone.

2) Thank you!

3) Stunning display of your elusive beauty, the drop point.

Well... you tell us. ;)

No worries, at all. I admire your confidence in addressing the bone on so many handles that others would quail to touch, and for the most part I enjoy your outcomes. They are all an eye-opener of sorts, in terms of what years of use might look like on knives most of us keep relatively pristine. Your scratted bone adventure, in particular, keeps me looking back at Charlie's/Waynorth's oldest true Ancient, thinking in new ways about what the bone on that one may have looked like new (and what mine might look like, 100-years-of-careful-use hence!).

With this one, however, I am so pleased at what GEC accomplished with the new bone, your results prompted my . ;-)

Your sunny picture and knife is great, what kind of bone handle is this?

Thank you! This is Pioneer bone, evidently one of a small number of #25s clothed in the same at the time of the most recent run.

I am very much taken with its idiosyncratic shaping and coloration-- a very useful knife disguised as a perfect worry stone.

With my white bone Northfield Bullet Jack, which shared similar coloration earlier in its life:

The contouring hinted at above:

Its blade stamp, larger in proportion and with slightly different serifs than previously seen on the #25s:

A very happy owl, I.

My first Northfield 25 arrived today. An easy open jigged amber bone. It seems so much more substantial then the green OD micarta Tidioute Coyote that came in last week. My first jigged bone knife. I thought I always preferred smooth bone knives,,,but I may have been wrong! I like the polished blade very much and the minor Northfield finishes on the bolsters as well. Do most Northfields come with the polished blades?

Yes, most do Mike. There are some exceptions from time to time though. The run of Northfield #83's had a few with both satin and polished blades, for example but it's not common.
