GEC 25s - Gots 'em?

Yeah, that was a total bummer! You'd have given it a great home.

(For anyone curious: It got lost in the mail, and I refunded LastRodeo in full.)

Some LA postal employee got himself a nice knife probably. I still look for it to pop up on eBay.

Man, that certainly is a bummer. Sorry to hear this.

Dadpool, the suspense is killing me. If you don't my asking, what cover material did you get on your new 25 EO?

Just when I think I have all the ones that will make me happy, I decide maybe the same one in a different cover. These little Bullet Jacks are beautiful... I think I'd love to have one with Stag covers too!

I know what you mean BullRome, for years I had only this Northwoods, and a Tidioute sheepfoot, which I've been really happy with, both getting a lot of pocket time. Never felt the need for more...

...and yet when this recent batch came out, I was compelled to extend the family. I've always loved the look of these little barlows, and I only meant to get ONE, the African Blackwood, yet it was this entire trio that showed up in my mail box. :eek: :D
EDIT, oops, sorry for the oversized pics.

Magical spear point balancing Barlows!

That mysterious quality that tells you which one will go in the pocket, belongs to the blackwood.(at least out of these barlows.;))

My WLST came today! I love it. :D:thumbup:

The EO notch locks perfectly onto my ring finger, and combined with the width of the frame that makes it a pleasant handful despite its overall small size. I prefer the girth with just a single blade, and a short sheepsfoot seems like a great option for a small knife. The jigging and the color of the bone are even more interesting in person than in the seller's photos.

I'm really happy with this little guy.

Great score, Dadpool! Those little 25's are hard to beat and the Sheepsfoot EO has always been my favorite among them. Especially the 440C versions.

It's good to see that you've encountered a 3 inch knife that isn't too small for your tastes. If any knife can do that it's the GEC 25. Congrats on a mighty fine acquisition.

Thanks! :) It's weird that a quarter-inch makes a difference, but a 3.25" handle is a four-finger knife for me, while a 3" handle is a three- or maybe three-and-a-little-finger knife.

Beautiful piece, and the acorns are not that easy to find either! Have you the tube for this one? I wasn't sure about dessert tan as one of the 25s 440C covers so I checked the lists;

GREAT EASTERN CUTLERY
#253110EO
Desert Sand Jig Bone 50 pcs. serialized. 17 pcs. no serial numbers

It is, regardless of name, a stunning colour of jigging and the acorn shield is great. Part of me wishes we would see more of them, but the other loves that they're so rare. :)

Yep, it came with the tube and you've identified the correct knife. :) It's a consistent dark brown in the jigged sections, and a speckled, faded brown elsewhere -- and in those spots, it does actually remind me of the desert. The color is full of subtleties I find appealing.

Just when you think there isn't another #25 out there you want, this happens...

The other night, whilst waiting for my in-laws ferry to cross the Minch from Skye to Harris I tried to take a group shot of my modest (in comparison to some) collection of 25s. It was dark and rainy and windy and generally pretty awful weather and all of that isn't really a good excuse for my shocking photography, but it's the only current representation I have.

That's an impressive collection, Paul! (and growing, I'm sure)

I'm intrigued by that Black Micarta in the bottom right corner. I have not seen one of those before. Nice group shot!

Ah yes, 252212 only 14 were made in black canvas micarta and it's a very nice piece. It was the one that completed my 2012 Tidioute spread :)

Paul If that's a 'modest' collection, I'd like to see a 'lavish' one:eek::D Veering towards comprehensive....definitive even:cool:

Particularly admire the Yellow jigged bone 2 blade Barehead, superb example.:thumbup:

The thing about 25s is the proportions, they have a broad enough handle and good feel about them even in single-blade. The size is less important, the Coyote was a severe disappointment to me as it felt too lightweight, skimpy and generally 'blow-away' aura, put me off the Beagle completely. No such drawbacks with the 25 ,in my book at least.

Thanks, Will

... Have you seen AKC's 25 collection?!

I agree about the proportions and the new #18 pattern, I had ordered a pair of coyotes in error (I thought I had ordered beagles) but when they arrived they were so light and appeared so small that I was put off the beagles. Gave them both to people who would appreciate them.
The 25 just works for me. I love em.
