GEC #340223 Camel Back Congress

I believe it would be OK and none of us will know anything about it in a couple of hundred years ;)

These do look good though and it's a nice change for GEC to take a bigger Acrylic route, there will be Bone too in the future, so I hear :)
I’d be surprised if there isn't a bone and a wood Northfield option.

Beautiful. Single spring with half stops on both blades. The action is spot on, similar to the 81 muskrats from 2022. The wharncliffe is from the 35 calf pen and the pen blade is from the 35 M&G trapper. Seems like a good combo, pocket time will tell the tail. The tip of the wharncliffe was a little over baked from the belt so it did need a little TLC out of the tube to get right.

How do you like the acrylic? It looks a little bit like translucent bone, with dye variations. It isn't really doing much for me in the pictures, but perhaps in person it looks more interesting?

Acrylic in general is growing on me, the jigged acrylic is very cool. This particular acrylic appears to be the same as the coffee house from the 81 run. The translucent orange with the brass liner pops withe the dark swirls for character.

Thoughts on it for carving?

I prefer a shorter blade for carving.
Please forgive what are surely ignorant questions, but how long is this blade and what length do you prefer? What is your preferred blade shape?

I’m very new to carving and whittling and I’ll take any knowledge you would be willing to share!!! We can go to PM if I’m cluttering this thread!

Search carving and Jiki in this forum and you find a few of my answers.

Short answer 1.5 -1.75 inch wharncliffe or sheepsfoot.
62 pocket carver
82 Dixie
35 cattlemen
All have good blades.

The acrylic Tidioute versions look great. Can’t wait for this Northfield version.

I would love to be able to snag one of these. I seem to have bad timing with the releases.

Thanks for the pic - I wound with two 81s, a Yellow Rose Bone (my first GEC) and a Red Onion Micarta, but it was a tough choice between the micarta and the textured coffeehouse acrylic.

Now that I've got a Smoked Amber Texcrylic 34 on the way, I'm feeling somewhat redeemed.
