GEC #35 Churchill Thread

Oh man... if I can grab one of these bananas, I might just do it. Lol

I literally am unsure what I think of them overall, but the one thing I do like from the photos so far is the slightly rougher, almost saw-cut look to parts of the covers. Hopefully the finished product maintains that "matte" look.

Not that I'll be getting one, but that would be my preference.

I like the banana but I don't think much of that acrylic.

Given the choices that must be available, it seens strange that GEC isn't able to select more attractive acrylic options.

I agree. It does look a little dreary.

The green banana's look like they're a sawcut bone. That's pretty wild!

And i've been patiently holding out on getting a 35 till the Acrylic option materialized. Can't wait to see one finished. I think acrylic looks best on cigar/equal end patterns.

It's amusing how tastes vary.

I see most people were uninspired by the New Green Acrylic, not I! Looks like interesting Old School Cell, providing the buffing doesn't make it too dark. Whereas, the Green Banana does not look like an underripe banana (just some leftover Yellow Texas) and that 'shield' screams novelty effort to my mind...:D:D:thumbsup:

Regards, Will

Yes, I was not overly impressed with the “green” acrylic. But I will get one as soon as it hits the dealers. Any #35 is wonderful! Well, maybe not the Field and farm.
I think any bright yellow knife is tempting the term novelty. I’ve already ordered a yellow rose. I turned down the offer to switch it for the banana.
I believe that acrylic can be considered traditional, for it is a substitution for celluloid. However, micarta is not a good substitute for any traditional handle material.

I’m coming around to micarta on traditionals. It’s an “old enough” material, though it wasn’t really used on pocket knives. I like the look and texture of it.

Although I would love me some sawcut banana, that pic that seems to show a sawcut finish may be pre-final polishing. Is there any confirmation of the final finish from an official source?

I've heard nothing official at all.

Speculation based on my observations only, for what it's worth, is I agree there's some polishing yet to do on these, and they'll likely end up with a smooth matte finish. Maybe some faint sawcut marks will exist on a few, but I don't think they'll be prevalent.

That's not to say I'm not hoping for some sawcut.

Oh yeah, they could do it every run and it would sell like hot cakes. Just look at the popularity of the Schrade patterns. Imagine if every GEC knife produced in acrylic was instead in saw cut bone :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
