GEC #47 Harvester and #74 Cotton Sampler. First 2023 run.

The Mailman brought my Northfield Cotton Sampler this morning and I am very happy with it . It Checks All the Boxes that I go over when I get a new one . Centered , Flush , No Gaps , No Blade Rap , Sharp on all Cutting Edge Areas , Grain in the wood , No Pin Cracks , and I can even Pinch it Open if I want to .

Now I can go out and Sample a Cotton Bale if I had one and knew what I was doing .
I still do not know why I looked forward to this one sooooooo much , but I like it a lot . This most likely will not be a Safe Queen , but we will see .

Just threw some sparks with a ferro rod and the neck of the cotton sampler. This wouldn't be a bad "bushcraft " knife. Fire prep, small notches, food prep, and others have suggested a skinner. I understand that if you aren't using a Mora or a Kephart your doing it "wrong" 😉😎. However, I can't find any cotton to sample so, I don't mind finding other creative uses for this knife. Not a bad EDC and a nice conversation piece. I'm going to continue to carry and access it.

What a great use for the notch! My companion Swiss Army Compact has one of those little fire ant ferro rod toothpick replacements and I was thinking about what to use for a striker the other day and the notch on the cotton sampler didn't even occur to me.

This is called The #47 Harvester and the #74 Cotton Sampler after all , but there is a little difference in ages of these

Awesome pic of those two beauties buddy. 😎 🤠

I think this would complement the #47 very well.

Best regards,

Has anyone found a classy slip for the #47? That was just a suggestion.............

Has anyone EDC as well?

Best regards,

Late to the party I hear you cry! Well just glanced at our friend from Iceland's posting...we will have call it a draw as it arrived yesterday as well! The exact collection time was 19.29 yesterday and I think Iceland is 2 hours behind but remarkable they appear the same day!

I must send greetings to paulhilborn paulhilborn who very kindly helped obtain the knife for me and it WOULD have beaten Jacques Mi Jacques Mi has the packet not been sent back to paul as it was about to leave the USA for some odd reason, conspiracy... I'm deeply impressed with it, don't find the pull light on mine and I've oiled the Micarta for a more uniform look. Best GEC for some years I feel .

Looks great Will! May I ask what kind of oil you used? I really like how yours turned out. 👍

Thanks, well I just used what we call cooking oil (Rapeseed, Canola?) but I never cook with the filthy muck but keep it for oiling wooden chopping boards. Think any oil would do with Micarta, best is just the Mineral Oil you have in the US (can't get that here any longer, only expensive laxatives-if you drink my supper-strength coffee you'll never need laxatives :D) Micarta being very tough material should be OK with most oils, it kind of darkened the dry rough areas and gave some sheen overall, I think this material will age well.
