GEC #47 Harvester and #74 Cotton Sampler. First 2023 run.

This is a PSA: Please avoid buying any chechen 47/74s due to risk of anaphylaxis. Give me a chance to purchase them and evaluate this risk first before proceeding. 😄
The trip to the islands may dampen the affects of the sap. We can't take the risk, no, this will need to happen ASAP on the mainland.

Looks the part! That Jigged Micarta is a brilliant idea, Rat-Tail and a Pruner blade 😻 just crossed my fingers, abundantly. Let's hope it doesn't COST its weight in gold:eek::D

Good as (Cat's) Gold & (Nickel) Silver, the metals for the poor collectors... affordable i guess 😆

btw, is it nickel silver or steel?

You really think that is the subject to joke about? 😠

As a pharmacist working in a hospital I can assure you I take anaphylaxis very seriously. What I said was clearly in jest about how hard these are going to be to obtain. This is the porch. Grab a beverage, put your feet up and relax.
I hear you. I just happen to have zero tolerance to such things as a person who suffers from allergy whole his life.

The jigged micarta really looks good - is this the first time GEC has done that?
I think that one counts as jigging

So, I got a reply from GEC about Chechen wood. Here's what they say:

... we do not treat it in any way and are not sure if our supplier does.
From what I have seen it is the sap that can be an irritant if you are sensitive to it.
We do know that the wood is kiln dried and therefore should be free of any sap.
Of course, if you are sensitive to the sap then I would recommend that you not purchase this knife.

Still like the Jigged Micarta most and they must be on the streets soon  I feel confident I may have one on its long way:thumbsup:

As for the anxieties about the Chechen Rosewood, allergies are not pleasant things but I would think that the main danger with this wood giving problems is in the cutting, drilling and sanding. Once finished it's probably inert like asbestos, unless cut into, broken or sanded

Oh well, I think I'm going to follow GEC's recommendations here.

I locked down a micarta #47 and #74 today. Now I can rest easy for the rest of this run unless they have a third cover option come out that looks attractive.

Well, it arrived a day early and I couldn’t be happier! As always another beautiful knife from GEC. Fit and finish is excellent. Wasn’t sure if I’d like the textured micarta but initially I find it nice and grippy. The blade is easily pinchable and the pull is in the 4-5 range. The walk and talk is nice and snappy. The only thing I can compare it to is the Hay&Helper that I passed on last year. Imho this one is more attractive. Looking forward to seeing the Chechen Wood version.
