Dang, I didn't know this version had match strike pulls! I've never gotten my hands on a GEC knife with them. Now I must get this version too.View attachment 2051869
These turned out great. Hoping to pick one up to prune my calamansi trees.
Yeah I know, right? I’m not a huge fan of pruners but between the match strike pulls and the houndtooth shield I’m sold. That and the fact that the 47/74s are one of my favorite patterns.Dang, I didn't know this version had match strike pulls! I've never gotten my hands on a GEC knife with them. Will, my Sharpmaker is so old it came with written instructions. No, don't really like a Longpull or nail nick on a Pruner, not only superfluous but spoils the beauty of this distinctive blade in my view.. Nevertheless, it's good GEC are offering very distinct versions, my money's still firmly nailed on the Rat-Tail thoughKeen gardener , a Pruner is not only useful for cuttings etc but opening sacks of stuff, bales too and scoring lines.
Somebody raised the question of sharpening them i think? I use a diamond rod but I believe Sharpmaker has something about sharpening Hawkbills on their instructional video, just don't have any player for DVD or even VHS....
Yes I can but it is best done through the use of PMs which one needs to have a paid membership to access. The buying and selling of knives is discouraged on this sub forum. i will say it has become increasingly difficult to score one on public drops. Can someone explain to a noob here how you actually find these knives for sale? Do they really just sell out within minutes of coming into stock at all retailers and how do you even know when they're going to be available?

Really, mine came with just some odd DVD.. wish it had that. Will, my Sharpmaker is so old it came with written instructions.![]()
Poke around some on the “Let’s Talk GEC“ thread (1,505 pages and counting) and you will learn a ton. I was totally clueless about the process as of November last year. Read a bunch on the thread and a few other places online to get up to speed. Took a little bit, but also deepened my interest in the brand. And I’m happy to report I scored a knife at the drop for the first time about 10 days ago. It felt great!Thank you for the reply.
I respect the rules around buying and selling through subforums and wasn't looking to circumvent that by any means.
I looked at the pruner/harvester and thought it'd be a nice one for the garden that maybe my wife could grab for my birthday. But I couldn't find one anywhere. Any previous models seem impossible to find unless you're paying custom prices off of ebay. For what it's worth on my end I think the 88 ace and desert ironwood are probably the best looking US knives I've ever seen but never come across one of those for sale.
It seems I've a lot to learn about this GEC world!
Here you goReally, mine came with just some odd DVD.. wish it had that.
It's a bit like new cars, no Instruction Manual just a link to a digital form, much more time consuming to go through than a conventional book you can flip through. He said 'flip' aargh perma ban![]()
How is the pull on it?
Lighter than I'd like on a Pruner. Around a 5. I'd have preferred a 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 pull on a Pruner.How is the pull on it?
Thank you for the response. I really like this one. Purpose built!Lighter than I'd like on a Pruner. Around a 5. I'd have preferred a 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 pull on a Pruner.![]()
