GEC #47 Harvester and #74 Cotton Sampler. First 2023 run.

Thank you for the response. I really like this one. Purpose built!

Yes it is. I intend to get good use out of it. I have quite a few Pruners and this with the micarta covers is thinner and lighter than any Pruner I have. The jigged micarta provide a good grip. Cant wait to get it into the garden. Plus it just looks great! 😁

Both the micarta and chechen looks good albeit very different from one another. I don't think there is a "winner" of the two and I'm very pleased to have a micarta coming my way from one of GEC's distributors.
I would love to put the knife to use myself but had already decided beforehand that, should I land one, it will be gifted to my father in law who more or less has been living in his garden since his retirement about a year ago. I'm sure that the knife will be cherished and put to good use in is hands.

I received my 47 Micarta yesterday. The texture is rough and provides a lot of grip. Bolsters look great and are suited to the all steel construction. Is a lot thinner than my 47 Hayn Helper in orange delrin, which makes it much more pocket friendly. Looking forward to landing a 74 sampler next. I’ve heard the numbers are quite a bit lower for the covers in rosewood for both the 47 and 74. I love the Good as Good logo. Makes me think of watching old westerns where the cowboy is in a hard spot and has to trade his trusted knife to get further along in the quest lol 😆

A couple 47 Harvesters..... One in Natural Micarta and the other in OD Green Micarta.... Steel construction; half stops; no nail nicks.... The ergonomics are great in my book... Besides the obvious gardening use, they make great package openers....

I like how you always strive to collect them all. Is the jigging on the OD lighter than on the natural one? And blade seem to be satin?

If you like the victorinox 91mm feel.

The wenger models were a bit looser, lets say 4 and the bigger 93mm Victorinox were a bit more, like a 6.

Really? Interesting. So 5 is kind of perfect then?
I think what you need to understand that all of this is subjective measurements - not just the pull but also how strong a pull one prefer.
On mid-sized and larger knives I prefer a strong pull, over 5 at least. Maybe up to 7. On smaller knives that does not have the same leverage and fuller grip that larger blades give, I find a pull around or just under 5 more comfortable.
A person can easily feel that, say, the #47 Pruner has a weak, sort of dissatisfying pull around 4 but see it as perfect on a much smaller peanut knife.

I think it says

As Good as Gold.

Well that was a roller coaster. I had originially thought the Northfield too good looking to pass up, then I decided minutes before the drop to get the Tidioute because the Northfield is too close to my ironwood viper. Then I got an email saying that they oversold the Tidioute and could offer me the Northfield at no extra cost. Either way, new knife to play with!

I did really get attached to the idea of the jigged micarta and steel construction though.

Viper84 Viper84 I believe that part (middle, flat area) of the blade was used to roll cotton on to check its quality/density and see if the crop was ready to harvest or something.
