GEC #47 Viper

For cracked handle wood...
I fixed my ebony and rosewood with thin superglue. I filled the glue in a crown cork and and dipped a needle in,
so the glue could be carefully filled dripwise into the crack.
Too much of the glue can be sanded down easily, but a dark/shiny spot will stay visible where the glue went in.

Try collecting some wood dust when you can and mix it with the superglue next time.

These 3 Northfield SFO's arrived today! :) There will be a lot of CFing and CEing going on tonight!:D

My 47 Viper just got here today. Another fine effort by GEC with another fine Northfield.

Would have liked to seen more of this STUFF in the handle.

Pull is probably a 5 or 6 and never tried to pinch it open.Spring is flush on Closed and Opened but not quite flush on Half Stop , but who in their right mind uses it in that position anyhow.Every new Northfield I get appears to be the best one I ever got , but I know that is not true. They did however make some beauties with these.
Doubt that this one will ever be an EDC , but it does add to my Northfields with a pattern that I have always admired from afar. I should have bought more !!!!

So..... On the Northfield's, They have etching on the Jigged, Snakewood and smooth bone, but not the micartas (Red or Black)

And on the Three with etching, they are all different.

Rats! I was hoping to be the first guy with smooth oiled bone pics posted ;)

It has immediately won me over compared to the hemlock jigged bone. My particular piece is much easier of a pull, and I love the satin over the gloss. I can pinch open both, but I have try pretty hard on the jigged. The oiled bone pinches open easily for me. Myabe not sheepsfoot easy, but pretty easily. I also happen to prefer the shield and the etch on the oiled bone. Good choices Mike!

Lets let pics speak for themselves here...

The red and black micarta are sfo's for (removed non BF dealer member reference) and in conversation with him the other day he said he chose not to have a blade etch.

Beautiful knives and pictures everyone. I have a question. I know the "S" or "store" knives are stamped with and "S" to designate them as such, but where is the "S" located? I would assume on the tang, but I've never seen nor handled one.

Thanks,
Rick

Jeff : You just under estimate Old Man Speed that people from Tenn. have .
The mark side of your Smooth Oiled Bone shows more of the STUFF in the handles that I would have liked to had.
If you really do not like your Hemlock , send it to me and I will store it for you.

Stubby Tumbnail answered part of your question. Snakewood handled knives have always had the 'Snake Wood' etch, kind of like the 'Natural Stag' knives have their etches.

The one etch I'm currently wondering about is the 'Northfield' etch. That one seems to appear on the satin finished blades while the 'Un-X-LD' shield is on the mirror finish.

Of course, I could always be wrong.

Thanks for the pictures of those smooth oiled bone guys! I really wish I'd reserved one of those.
