GEC #47 Viper

My stag showed up today. Love this knife, handles very well matched. I lucked out as I had not reserved one.

Tough time deciding which one looks the best, they all are fantastic in their own right - the stag is as always awesome, Bob's SFO has lovely elongated shields, the bone has almost a mystery surrounding it, and the snakewood is well, unlike any grain I've seen... though I know I can't keep 'em all, enjoy them while I have them!

Beautiful Vipers one and All...

here a couple from 2014, in chenchen rosewood and fat stag.

but these just came in

The red micarta is a darker blood red with black streaks than in the pictures, love it.
Hard to find the grain split in the snakewood, but it is there at a very specific angle in the light. Bob told me it was already repaired at the factory.

I am swaybacksteve and I approve of these 2016 Vipers:p:thumbup:

My EDC should be coming today, and if that is the extent of the issue then wow - I hope I have figuring like yours. Looks great!

Okay guys, my "store" snakewood viper has arrived, ashamed and branded by GEC QA as unacceptable.

Here is a pic, gaze upon it in its hideousness if you dare! :(

Whew! Okay that was not too bad. It actually isn't even the side with the flaw, however you can see the "S" branded onto the tang on the pile side. Okay, are you ready to see the issue?

Here it is! Gross! :barf:

Dont you see it? Its right there!

Seriously - it is right in front of you. Look if you dare!

Alright fine - Its time to go HD mode... This must be like what the news casters felt like the first time HD television was a thing. ACK!

I think its brothers will accept him, all things considered. :D ;)

In all seriousness, I can't thank Mike enough for making these available for folks who did not have their early reserve fulfilled. In my opinion, that's a great example of customer service in a bad situation out of his control. On top of that, he sold this knife at a loss to those of us who did not get our early reserve. For the price he let these go for, I feel like I stole this beautiful knife from him (especially considering the going rate on the secondary market!). Thanks again Mike Latham!

Oh, and as far as I am concerned, the "S" stands for Sublime Snakewood!

Nice Vipers everyone!

JPrime & Swayback Steve - to me, those cracks are a non issue, but I can already hear the cries of the folks who pull out their magnifying glass. I'm glad you got one of these. Absolutely gorgeous figure on both!

My whole 47 crew finally arrived yesterday. I have to admit, the Harvester is what drew me to this pattern. I actually completely passed it up on the last two runs, to my detriment I now find..... oh well, I think this will satisfy me for a while.

I just landed the last non-damaged snakewood!! It was really the only 47 besides the smooth bone that I was interested in so I'm eagerly awaiting its arrival.

A little of my thoughts on the viper. I usually dont like a sheepsfoot/wharnie single blade knife as it is really lacking in versatility for my needs. I also have been leaning more towards <3.5" slippies since I back them up with a fixed blade and find larger ones redundant (being a knife nut that doesn't stop me much!!). However, I find the aesthetics pleasing and there is something to be said about that so we will see if it earns a permanent place in my EDC rotation.

I just posted a vid if anyone would like to see them in motion.

If that is the extent of the pin crack, you must be thrilled! I would have expected it to look much worse. Those handles are simply beautiful. I shied away from the Snakewood and now wish I had pulled the trigger on one.
Agree that Mike made the best of a bad situation. Offering them at reduced prices to those that missed their reserved knives because of the QA issue was great customer service!

[A non-BF dealer] has the black linen micarta Tidioute in stock. Thank goodness it isn't a giveaway, I was gonna have to mug someone for theirs.

I tried to get Bob to call this one the, "Coal Miner Goin to Church Knife" (see my avatar). Bob likes to call it, "Workin Man Goin to Church Knife".

I think it fits either way.

Sorry, a couple drops of rain in there.

Enjoy the day!
Josh
