GEC #47 Viper

Bozack,
I read somewhere in a post that the material for the snakeskin handles was outsourced and hasn't arrived at GEC as of when it was posted. Sorry, but I don't remember when it was posted or where, but it was in the last few days.
Hope this helps,
Rick

I have reserved the brown snake skin handle Viper. Why have they not been made yet? What has happened, will they be made? I tried looking for an answer but have come up short. Thanks.

I read somewhere that it's coming but delayed due to supplier in Germany.

Got my black micarta 47 yesterday, really happy with it. I am fairly new to traditionals and after having read of the difficulty with pinching open Northfields due to the swedge I was bummed that I hadn't gone with a Tidioute variant. I had a 47 in stag that I got rid of because it was a nail breaker. I was pleasantly surprised that this knife, although swedged , is easily pinched open. Quick pic this morning before work.

Nyrico, Did that 47 Northfield come with a clean blade or did you remove the UNXLD etching?

ok so after an hour of light sanding and light buffing with the dremel I smoothed out the chips and rough jigging. here's the results. I honestly like this a lot better than the original. the surface buffing brought out a lot of green highlights which I guess is to be expected. I also learned that the original blemished area is a weak part of the bone and isn't very dense to begin with. which I assume is why there were so many chips in that part.

Looking Good !!!! Way to go !

It was sterile from GEC which is one of the things that drew me to it.

This turned out great! I'd love to see what it looks like in natural light. The green looks so much more vibrant.

I haven't carried any of my jigged bone GEC'S.... mostly acrylics, but man, that jigged bone really wears into something beautiful. I'd say it looks way better than new, chips or no chips.

I got the shipped email on my EDC snakewood with the pin crack issue. I hope it turns out to be drop dead gorgeous with a teeny hairline crack

I am really wanting to add a leather lanyard on my 47. What type of leather would be best? I had used leather laces once, but the leather was very stiff and hard to work with.

I found leather cord on Amazon that worked pretty well for me. No pics at the moment, but I did one on my Hayn Helper.

Anyone get one of the EDC snakewoods yet?
Please post pictures of the repair if you have.

Mine will be here probably next week. I will absolutely post detailed images, and try to resist the 250% priced ones in the exchange until then.

I'm trying to figure out where the black linen Tidioute Vipers for [a non-BF dealer] are. No searches online turn up anything. Are these not for retail sale?

Looking good! I did this with my #85 and really liked the colors coming out.

For cracked handle wood...
I fixed my ebony and rosewood with thin superglue. I filled the glue in a crown cork and and dipped a needle in,
so the glue could be carefully filled dripwise into the crack.
Too much of the glue can be sanded down easily, but a dark/shiny spot will stay visible where the glue went in.
