GEC 68 Pony Jack 2021

Two blades on one side and one blade blades on opposite sides? I’m sure there are folks here that can chime in with better knowledge. 🤷
That pretty well sums it up, I think. The Pony Jack is a jack knife with both blades pivoting on the same end.
The White Owl is a "double ended" knife, with one blade pivoting on one end, and the other blade pivoting on the other.

Double ended knives are sometimes slimmer than the jack style, because they can be made with one spring, if the maker chooses to do so.

hopefully more pics for this thread, this week 🤞

2011 White Owl in Black Buffalo Horn

JoKr JoKr how’s the snap on the blades into open on the new 68? Do they both snap well? I understand they have no half stops.
sry, these are older knives, not from the current run.
both, the White Owl and the Pony Jack have a pretty weak spring and the action is ok, but not a gator snap.

Got it. Your pony Jack looked one of the new ones.

Both blades on my new cocobolo snap open and closed well. The pull is not super strong (maybe a 5) and I could push it shut on my finger from the open position if I really tried. This one could benefit from a half stop. Not really for heavy duty use, but that wasn't what it was really made for. Nice smooth action on both blades though. Fits my hand well for a smaller knife and ppckets nicely.

Any advantages to one pattern over the other?
Only benefit I could think of is the white owl is a single spring so it makes it thinner. With the blades on opposite ends one blade can operate them. Personally, I like the heft of two springs on GEC’s of this size. Both are nice it’s more preference.

Sounds like about the same pull as the 62's?

Just compared them both. The pull on the 68 is just a little stronger, but the 62 has the half stops. I wouldn't worry about the 68 closing up unless you were really twisting it in something. I also compared it to a 1920's Remington Jr. Cattle Knife that is near mint, and the pull and snap are on par with it. Probably about where it was meant to be for a knife of it's size and intended use.

I have a reserve for a #68 White Owl in Stag which hopefully was the wiser choice over the jigged bone. It will be my third time trying out a multi-blade, hopefully third times the charm 😃
