You and me both!!!A scout knife on this frame is my dream GEC.
Not sure if all steel knives have had a shield. I can't recall as I remeber them being #15 barlows and barlows generally don't have shields. I can't recall though.
The only all-steel knife I have with a shield that is made by GEC is a Northwoods - otherwise, all others (14s, 15, 77s, 93s,) are all shieldless, non-barlow versions as well.
I'm pretty sure I have a 92 Eureka Jack with a hot dog shield and no endcaps that is all steel. I'll have to try to dig it out.
No other exceptions spring to mind tho. And I can sure be remembering wrong too!
The #15 Urban Jacks from earlier this year were all steel and had shields, both the jigged bone and micarta versions.
Agreed - I bought my first GEC Jan 2020 and at the time the #92 Tidioute Eureka Jack run had just finished. I got a red jigged bone, the only one left from a few places, but it wasn't hard. The next run was the #62 Congress and that wasn't too hard to get, and then in a matter of a few months it became nearly impossible to buy one unless I was waiting at the moment of the drop refreshing my browser - and now even with that 9 out of 10 times I can't check out before the inventory is gone. Don't get it. Any thoughts on why the increase in popularity?Don't feel bad, the last few I tried to jump on were sold out before I could login and pay for them. This GEC game is nuts.
I don't, but here's a tip in case it's helpful. This page lists all the lengths of all GEC knives - https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...-if-they-have-half-stops-and-lengths.1091784/ - if you search for "3.75", which is the length of the #35, you'll see there are a bunch of other knives that are the same length (e.g., #62). If you have any of those knives you can get a sense for the length in pocket.Anyone have a picture for comparison of this pattern with a 35? Curious to see how much smaller it is. Thanks!
I've seen it done (and done it myself) with a 66 Serpentine Jack... I think the straight frame would be better for it.Im glad this is next, this is a pattern ive often considered and wanted for a blade delete to make a smaller equal ends than the 35 which i believe the blade is canted to allow for the secondary.
Jo, I think your were talking about the pull weight in a different thread? Forgive me if not. But, as I recall, the original run off ponies from years ago had pretty stout springs. Nice low sunken joints, too, so more comfy in hand in use than #15 jacks.

The belly and breadth of this blade isn't quite as pronounced as it is on the 15, just due to the swell-end of that 15 frame I think. Cam tangs, too.i always thought this knife had the 15 blade too, which i love. come to think of it, I dont think ive ever seen a pony jack blade deleted.
That has some of the best looking antique yellow jigged bone I've ever seen. Great example! This was one I had and sold in 2013. Regretted it and searched for years until I found one last year. Looking forward to the new run.
