GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

Ditto Buzz's comments. I vastly prefer multi-blade knives, especially with a clip and straight-edge.
So of course they finally bring out the exact combination I want, and I'm 0 for 3 on the draws so far. :(

2 blade for me, my natural micarta from the spear/coping run two years ago is my favorite beater. I think the clip/coping will take its spot with the thinner tip clip.

Having a straight and a blade with belly is what I think all knives should have.

Looks like they have pics of the Natural Linen Micarta up and I am psyched, looks really good and different from my Bone and Natural Canvas Micarta

With all the commotion over the new release I wanted to post my 1 and only #77 Barlow and say how glad I am to have bought it when I did. When I started getting heavily interested in GEC knives back in October 2016. It was right after the 3rd run release of these. At the time 2-3 were popping up on the exchange a week. I went back and read every page of this thread to learn as much as I could. I had to PAY up for it believe me. And I'm sure there were plenty of regular forum guys that thought I was crazy. But now I feel vindicated, and I'll never let this one go.

Looking forward to seeing how these turn out, looking good so far. I'm sure they will be great, unfortunately I missed them entirely, didn't see the text in time for two of them, and unlucky on the other two. At least I have several previous run 77s to keep me company.

I've been carrying mine for the same reason. :) Mine was my second GEC; similar to you, I found out about the pattern shortly after I became interested in GEC knives and knew I had to have the green one. Mine's from a 2016 run and has a slight imperfection around that center pin on the show side, but the price was right and I bought it with the intent to use it, so it didn't (and doesn't) matter to me.

As I've never seen a 77 in the flesh, may I ask:
On smooth bone options, is it customary for the butt end to be rounded? The gods smiled upon me and I lucked up on an elderberry camel bone reservation.
I like how the sawcut ones have a square-er end.

Can you enlighten me and explain what you meant by "Eliminating genuine stag" please?

They used to offer stag in 3 grades, Genuine, Natural and Burnt. Not sure of the difference between Genuine and Natural although those marked Genuine did not have the shield mounted, it came in the tube. I do however have a #65 Ben Hogan in Genuine stag that mistakenly came with the shield mounted. I am thinking that is a rare bird indeed, perhaps the only one?

It was a tough choice between the green and the copper as they were both popping up a few times after the release. Mine is from 2016 run as well. I since went back and edited the year in my post . I admit yours looks a lot better with that great patina on the blade and the bolsters.
