GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

I was one of the lucky ones who got a clip in autumn gold.... in the 2 minutes they were available. I wonder why the wharncliffe and sheepfoot are still there?! I got those in red sawcut and 3 is enough for me.....

Roseskunk- that 99 looks superb with the patina!

So glad I read this post!!!! Thank you & I snagged a sheepsfoot. I now have a blackwood, old red bone and smooth autumn bone all in sheepsfoot coming my way. I have a little bit of a sheepsfoot addiction. It's like a sub category within my knife addiction.... :)

Yeah, me too. Just snagged the last one I believe.

Damn insomnia ;)

I've already said it in this thread and I'll say it again: I can hardly wait! I have an African Blackwood Sheepsfoot on reserve. Now that I've seen the pic on the GEC website I know I made the right choice for me. Can't wait to have it in my pocket! The only other 77 I have is a Washington Jack and I love it. Great pattern. It's kind of funny how Mike is waiting to ship all of the variants until he receives them all (obviously a smart move in terms of logistics.)
I'm sure a lot of people on this forum will have boxes chock full of knives arriving in the coming week ;)

I'd say Mike definitely has a homerun on his hands here. I think the popularity of these Barlows could rival the #15 pattern Charlows (at least for those of us who have been too slow on the draw to grab a Charlow). I think the #77 is more useful in terms of size (the #15 seemed a little small for my hands). Can't wait to get my (2) clip-blade models. Great job, Mike. Keep'em coming!!!!

Glad I could be of help! In fact, I didn't even know these were up until I saw the first mention of it here.

The sheepfoot gets talked about a lot here but I have a hunch that the clip is still the most popular. Personally, I think the sheepfoot and wharncliffe look great visually, but in regards to use and sharpening, I will always prefer a clip or spear. If you break the tip on a sheep or wharnie, it looks like it would be a pain to sharpen the point back and the blade wouldn't be straight. Of the vintage sheepfoot knives I've seen, the points are always rounded off.

At any rate, I got an autumn gold clip, red sawcut clip and a red sawcut sheep (my first GEC sheepfoot!) headed my way..... very happy camper here!

Whoever gets these first make sure you post pictures for all of us!!

That is EXCELLENT news. I was wondering about that from the pics. Any idea when they'll start shipping?
When the Autumn Gold sheepsfoot was posted to the site yesterday it said "Expected availability 2/15," so I'm hoping that means the 77s will start shipping next week.

I was lucky enough to be browsing Collector Knives' website and saw the pre-order late last night. Scored myself a smooth autumn bone Sheepsfoot. This will be my first Sheepsfoot blade, as well. I'm pretty familiar with wharnnies so the application of the blade should be similar without the thin sharp point.

Can't wait to pocket this puppy!!

It seems that the flippers were out in force, on this run.
Eventually, the SFO originators will need to increase the prices they charge, in order to better reflect true market value.
Kinda surprised that it hasn't happened yet, to any noticeable degree. :)

I missed the clip autumn bone by 1/2 seconds or so, and wasn't aware of the sheepsfoot nor the wharncliffe until browsing last night and was able to snag a wharncliffe as I assume the sf were sold out. Wonder how I missed the chatter here about the wc & sf being up? Well, I'm thankful on getting in on the autumn bone.
Didn't intend on 4 #77's but will gladly accept an early birthday and Christmas and yes... Valentine's Day gift to myself.

I don't guess it is any business of mine what they do with them after they own them; but I refuse to use that as an excuse to fleece those that work hard for their money. I do understand with what you are saying, but don't know what the solution will be. Other than, they may flip these - but they'll only flip one of them!

What are you insinuating with this post?? Because some of us have bought more than one we are flipping? I just like knives and having multiples of my favorite patterns with different scale options. If anything I'm a hoarder who occasionally sells a knife for what I paid plus shipping and fee's. Not that I need to explain myself to you or anybody else but your comment is a little petty and lumping collectors and flippers into one category which isn't right.

To build a little off of what Jake said, some people buy multiples so that they don't experience remorse over choosing wrong. I've done this, where I preorder one handle and when they are released realize that I much prefer a different material that of course is already sold out. I've also had an issue where I preordered a knife and then had a family issue come up. I had the choice between not honoring my commitment and buying the knife and moving it on to another person. I guess my point is that there are reasons for ordering multiple knives and even flipping knives that aren't greed oriented. I know it's disappointing to not get the knife you want, we've all been there. Don't let it make you bitter against others. That's just going to ruin the hobby for you. Try to learn to enjoy the hunt for the elusive ones. I know, easier said than done.

I am glad there is a healthy demand for the SFO. I realize the demand drives up the price in the after market. However, I doubt the good folks a Collector Knives (or any other) would gamble their hard earned capital to supply special orders to a lukewarm market. The demand brings us all some unique SFO offerings that might not exist otherwise.

The pricing in the after market is a bit unfortunate. The market will adjust pricing over time. Either the retail price rises or supply increases.

Me? I wish I had ordered one in blackwood and red sawcut. I hope I get lucky and someone backed out of their commitment. I did order several configurations but no duplicates.

Again, thank you to all that make these fine products available.

Hence the reason you have many loyal customers, myself included.

P.S. I'm definitely a hoarder and not a flipper, probably to my wife's dismay.
