GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

Just back from the dremel. Here's how the blackwood sheepsfoot looks with a filed down kick and an easy open notch.

That looks factory perfect! I really like how you tied in the taper of the swedge to a line with EO notch! Nice work. I bet you just started a trend.

Thanks Curtis. I used pics of the 15 EO Scouts as a reference. The dremel did the rest.

Just the round sanding wheels. I had the rock it back and forth a bit to make the half circle cutout a little wider.

Alright. I might try this out on one of my knives, maybe even a 77 when they come in! Wander if it would work on bone the same way it works on wood? Sorry for all the questions. I don't wan to mess anything up, but it looks amazing on yours!

works the same on bone. Though the nickel silver liners on this one grinded a lot easier than the steel liners on the 15 Spear point I did a couple weeks back. I'll PM you pics of that one when I get a chance so as not to sidetrack this thread.

Ok sir... thank you. I would post a pic and my impressions on the #77 Medium Barlow, but mine are not here yet. Soon and very soon! Thank you.

I will say this. I love the TC barlow, and the sheep foot is just amazing for me. I anticipate these to be wonderful. Pics coming soon.

I think we need some pics of it open and some with it open in hand. I wonder how it'll look and feel.

well there's a couple pics of it open.

It feels good in hand. My ring finger sort of fills in the notch, which gives a better grip

Nicely done. Looks like it was done at the factory. Did it take several sanding wheels?

Mark

That took some guts! One slip and then Mcgyver's got to come up with a trick or two.
Good job.

Wow, just wow that looks perfect!

Thanks guys. I just used one sanding wheel 60 grit. I have my dremel on the work station stand so I just hold the handle over the spinning wheel as it lays horizontal. Makes it much easier not to slip.

You're not Lemmy Caution... you are William Wallace! Braveheart indeed! Fine work, btw!

"... but they'll never take our Barlows!!!!"

Another movie reference:
My wallet was glad they were all out of African Blackwood Clips, but then I get an email and well...

This pair arrived today, I'm impressed:thumbup:

Hey Paul, glad you were able to score those! Looks like you're going for the whole herd now!:D

Well Lemmy threw "Caution" to the wind so I figured, why not. I followed suit. :D
I had already filed the kick down. I really like this mod. Much more pinchable and as Lemmy stated previously, the ring finger just drops right in to give a better grip.
Not the best pics. I'll try to get some better ones tomorrow in the light of day. Thanks for the inspiration Lemmy.
