GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

Love this knife! Today is it's first day of many to ride around in my pocket. :)

Well said Perry. That is just an awesome color, Jake. I love the way the dye highlights different details in the bone.

I recently got into traditionals, and was instantly hooked -- pretty much these are all I carry, and my CRK, Spydies and BMs' haven't seen daylight for the last month or so. I appreciate the immense simplicity of these knives, and also realized these are all I need on a daily basis. Plus I don't mind showing these off in a crowd, and people go "oooooh!" (remember Didi from Dexter's Laboratory?). A TC Barlow is on its way as I type... and I am sooooo excited. Meanwhile, here is a group shot with a factory second #77 (has a subtle 2 stamped on the blade on the G of GEC, crack in bone near pin).

Added an EO notch to mine today. Also put an edge on it and filed a little more on the kick. I can say this 77 has been my daily carry for a few weeks now and it's always a pleasure to take out & use. I don't know if I'll ever be at the point where I can do anything but look at my blackwood SF, but this bone version is about perfect for a user. In examining the knife closely today, I realized how much the handwork shows through on these too. The bevels and angles all vary quite a bit, but everything is smooth and flows together nicely, just as you would expect on a knife that's hand-finished. My not-quite-perfect notch goes right along with the rest of the knife!

That's a beaut, Jake! You got one of the hard to find Autumn bones!

Thanks guys I'm really loving this knife!

That EO looks perfect PH! I really want to do this to one of my SF 77's as well but it will not be my autumn gold or old red with brass liners & pins. That only leaves my blackwood but I can't do it yet. I need to send it off & have someone else do it for me.

Both blade and handle are developing a patina. The smooth white parts of the stag are turning more gray. Despite daily use, blade pull remains a firm and snappy 8/10. The 1095 is easy to keep sharp. After weeks of daily carry, I have only positive impressions. The Northfield Barlow is great addition to my collection!

Dr. Scott and it: those steak handles are outstanding! Great collection.

I've had my 77 with Blackwood handles & a Clip blade for a few weeks now. I like it even more as time goes by. It is an exceptionally well made knife. I have maybe 40 GEC made knives and i think this 77 is possibly The Best for fit & finish.
What i see as it's finest 'detail' is how slim the handle slabs are and how they are perfectly radiused to the liners. This knife is as well hafted as my vintage Jos. Rodgers (Sheffield) folders and the in-hand feel is simply Perfect.
Thank you again Mike. These # 77's are a great addition to the knife world.
