GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

Apologies for the ignorance but could someone point me in the right direction in preordering one of these (if its still possible)? Appreciate the guidance!

So the canvas is always the exposed fibers, not a clear over them?

One of the advantages of the canvas over the linen or paper is the extra grippiness that the thicker fibers produce. From what I've seen, the finer the substrate the more likely the micarta is to be polished. The paper is almost always finished to a polish, the linen is sometimes finished to a polish, and the canvas is almost never finished to a polish. This is true across all makers, not just GEC. At least that has been my experience.

If you've never had a micarta knife I strongly suggest you consider it. I held out for a long time, but now that I have a couple of knives with micarta I love it. It's really the perfect knife handle, from an objective viewpoint. It's not always perfect in an aesthetic sense, but I don't think I could find a single fault in it's performance.

Really looking forward to adding some Spears to this bunch... they're gonna be phenomenal!

Nice selection Al. I am a little surprised not to see an African Blackwood. I remembered that you had all of the Autumn Gold and they are very fine ones to have.

Thanks, Harry!

I had two African Blackwood 77s. I gave my son the Wharncliffe. Here's the AB clip with the others:

Thanks for showing Al . I have always been sorry for not getting the Stag , but at the time I did not know how nice the 77s were . Your Stag looks very nice.

I would like that exact stag on my next one please Mike or maybe Al can just send me his. I have that knife in sawcut chesnut brown.

Yes, this coming run with spear and coping is going to be about as perfect as they come! I'm really bummed I missed out on the version with the two full size blades, however this run will have a long pull spear and that makes up for a lot. Not to mention that the coping blade's pull is opposite the main blade.

This will be my first stag GEC in a long time. The pictures Al just posted above really did me in and made me change from Blackwood to Stag...
