GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

If the Micarta 77s look anything like this I'm going to be very happy.

Natural Canvas Micarta crownlifter next to my Natural 'Paper' Micarta scout:

Can anyone shown the 77barlow next to a 15. Open and shut?

I've been holding out for a 15 single spear long pull with end cap. But man is this new barlow calling to me.

Decisions decisions.

Thanks

Jim

Jim, I think you will love the Northfield 77 Barlow with spear and long pull.

I picked a good time to get back into traditionals again, it seems :)

Got an ebony 83 on the way from Mike, picked up an ebony Beer Scout yesterday on the Exchange, and now after reading this ENTIRE thread....

got my "Sures" in with Mike at CK on a couple of single bladed 77 barlows -- red sawcut and blackwood.

I'M STOKED!!

Thanks madmonk! Great pictures. Really appreciate the help.

Jim

What to do what to do......

Jim I think as madmonk said you'll really enjoy the 77's. I have both the LPS TC barlow and a 77 pattern with the 2 blade. It really allows for a nice firm grip in the 2 blade variety with the added width. More real estate for hand purchase and all that~

With the spear that will be on this run as well, it offers a very symmetrical look to the swedged blade and rounded butt of the handle

Al : I think of you having a lot of 77s and have often wondered which is your favorite one. Your Stag and Autumn Gold look very nice. Thanks for posting.

This may have been answered already, but do we know if the coping blade will have a wraparound spring?

HI Folks,

Though I have a bunch of knives, frankly I know little.

Just received bear scout in ebony. Want to place an order for the 77. Thinking of the African Blackwood. How would that compare to the ebony?

Thanks so much for any comments.

Best regards,

George

Hey there George C The african blackwood is going to be a rounded butt and about a 1/4 of an inch longer than the 15.
It will fill the hand with it's contoured scales and allow a nice four finger grind all the way around the covers.
Nice and smooth. I definitely recommend one since it's on my reserve as well.
