GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

I had always thought that the "Pull effort" was a rating with 1 being that it practically fell open and that a 10 was a nail breaker. You are saying it is related to the "quality" of the pull rather than the amount of effort required?

I believe Mike is referring to the fit, finish, and overall quality as an 8, not the pull.

Sounds like I am in the minority, but I like the lighter color autumn bone a bit better.

I'm with you, Jeff. GEC's Autumn Gold is hard to beat. The darker version is nice, don't get me wrong, but I prefer the lighter.

I did the early notice signup for the autumn bone and sawcut red bone, level "notify". The autumn bone email arrived but I blew it off, deciding to hold out for the red bone instead since I couldn't do both. Unfortunately I've yet to get a notification for the red. Maybe I made a mistake? :(

Maybe this?

Notify: This third tier is simply for those that would like to be notified when a product is generally available. We are not guaranteeing that one will be available by the time you are to be notified. You will not be notified if none are available when the time comes.

Yes, depends on where you were on the Reserve List. Some are guaranteed and others are not depending on how early you got signed up.

When reservations were locked, red saw cut was red with an exclamation, indicating more demand than supply...

I got am email saying mine shipped.

Mike explained a few posts earlier that everyone got a shipping notice when he created shipping labels but that knives would actually be shipped on the 25th. Just two more days. . .

Yep. Guess that's what happened. I'll stop waiting for the email. :)

I signed up on June 15, but only as "notify."

If I'd of known that, I would have grabbed one of the golden bone when offered. Tried to upgrade my status from "Notify" to "Sure" for the red bone about two weeks ago, but the reservation system was already closed.

Having missed out on previous SFOs, this was my first attempt with the Early Bird system. Better luck next time.

I am sure sorry that you may have missed out Bob . The same happened to me until I learned the rules of the game. Hang in there and watch the CK sight because you never know what will happen with the Straggler knives and you may get a chance to jump on one. I hope that you are able to.

Yep, I have no hard feelings at all. I'm glad these are so popular and such a success for Mike.
The previous spear points (TC Barlows), I was able to grab a couple for a fair price second-hand here on the forums. It just took a lot of patience.

I gifted myself a few of the earlier single blade Wharncliffe, Clip & Sheepfoot #77. This time it's all in for the two bladed Spear 77s...an African Blackwood and an Ivory Bone. As someone said earlier, "piano key combo", or something like that.
Still deciding on the stag...duntknow.

I've got one of the new #77 Washington Jacks reserved at a different dealer, so regardless of the Barlow outcome my money won't be burning a hole in my pocket for long. :D

Two posts were moved offline. Discuss the knives not selling them please.

I agree, I have a SB African Blackwood on the way, along with a SB Autumn Gold and SB Stag. I can't wait!

This might be a stupid question, but I'm wondering why the GEC #77 frame is called a "medium" barlow?

As far as GEC goes I would think the 77 is large in their lineup of barlows (25 small 15 medium 77 large)? The 77 seems to be about average size and it seems like other manufactures call their "medium" size barlows, Barlow.

Good point. But then, CASE talks about a Mini Trapper but it certainly is not Lilliputian at 3.5"

I get so excited around release time that my inner Tourette seems to take over, walking around in a daze mouthing swear-words with glee:eek::D
