GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

Wow those micartas are popular, I'm seeing a lot here!

Congrats to everyone on receiving your knives today, keep the pics coming! We've all been awaiting this day for a LONG time. :)

This is one of two that arrived today...

Luc! You took my idea! :D

great minds think alike :)

Everytime I see a different cover I start kicking myself for not going that rout, because they all look so good.
HOWEVER, then I fish out my ivory bone and couldn't be happier with my choice. I was just blown away at the fit and finish. Also, I just love how they packed such a large main blade in there.
I just can't get over how nice these turned out. I'm glad I made this my first GEC.

Erik, you picked a great one, congrats. I also got the Ivory bone but haven't shown them off yet. For some reason I thought you had a GEC already.

All I have is the GEC made Northwoods Presidential. This is my first GEC branded GEC knife.
I can't wait to see how those micarta age.

I like the red sawcuts I've seen so far. Other runs have a few with pink/very light red near the bolsters which I don't care for myself. The ones pictured so far appear deep red.

Terrible lighting= terrible pics. Salty's face = my own.

Probably going to let the red go, but time will tell.

A little blurred, but look at how close that it is to flush. Closer than most of mine.

The lighting makes it look darker than it is. Still gives you all an idea on aging.

The last two GEC knives I've gotten (TC Ancient Barlow and 77 Barlow) are the sharpest I've ever gotten from the factory. Great job Mike and GEC!

Some of the best 77s I've had the pleasure to fondle... A job truly well done. Though I am a bit unhappy with the stag, since it has a huge valley that puts the covers totally asymmetric, the fit and finish is terrific.

That stag has some real character

Very pleased overall with my single AGB... I was hoping it would have a hint of the dark butterscotch that the 2 blades have and I think it does :). Fit and finish is good, no liner gaps!!!! (always makes me happy) I am actually able to pinch this open as well. The one slightly odd thing is the red dot near the butt of one end.. almost like it got a little frisky with one of the red sawcuts during the dye process lol. Kinda reminds me of the red storm on Jupiter with the colors.. but what do you guys/gals think of that? Flaw or added character?

Love the color!

The red dot..

Got three today and just bought the stag! Gulp. Man, these are just absolutely right. I always worry about new knives getting that first scratch or god-forbid a pepper spot, but when I thought how beautiful this one was going to look with a few years of patina, it went right into my pocket! (Well, in the provided leather case, but still... :))

That white bone is just gorgeous! My girlfriend wanted to get one for me and it arrived at the house today but to my dismay I now have to wait for a special occasion for her to gift it to me :( maybe if I put on a real glum look she'll relent and let me open it soon. :)
