This sub-forum was set up to discuss traditional knives, not purchasing, pricing, dealers, flipping etc. The guidelines for posting here are stickied above. Here's a link; https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...s-fixed-blades-sub-forum.530532/#post-4782488.Peregrin,
Sorry, I will refrain from that discussion as well. I typically don't question pricing but this has been an interesting run lately. We know Barlow's and special issues go kind of crazy.
I'm not questioning pricing, but as to why. Not to be crass or sarcastic, but why do the threads ban pricing questions. From what a couple dealers have told me, there are a whole new group of collectors looking to enter the GEC market.
It just seems some discussion from the veterans may prevent them from getting ripped off. I think it provides important information to the thread. I do realize it has become too overloaded lately, so I regress. Thanks.
IIRC Charlie said 500 on the Catch Bit Show. Not sure if it was an even split on handle cover materials. Was it mentioned how many of the CC Riders were made?

Oh, come on, you can carry the proto, it is most literally your knife. If I got a knife made for my specs by GEC, I would carry it all of the time!I have an "S" model ebony which I will carry and use!!
Absolutely fantastic well done.250 of each handle, plus the leftover parts were made into Ebonies!!
I finally got my shipment, and sent them out to various places. (I get mine after all the dealers, and supply Canadians!)
So I finally get to CF & CE them!! The box contained these Prototypes!!View attachment 2272360View attachment 2272361View attachment 2272362
I have to say, I love these knives!! Bill found a nice grade of Gabon Ebony, which is hard to find these days; and the white bone is nicely finished - it has a translucence to it!!! The "Empire" shields make me nostalgic for the days when I collected that cutlery, and I see why the old cutlers favored that shield!
These "Riders" have firm pulls and snap, essential to punch safety, and just plain satisfying to operate!!! Of course, Bill's/William's punch is pleasing to the eye - I have to test one soon - ( I seeSteveC has already done so! Post number 540 - back a page!) I have an "S" model ebony which I will carry and use!! More pics in the future!!
I've used a punch (awl) on my SAK a lot, and I would say it is very practical there. T-shaped handle is very comfortable to penetrate materials with the punch. But Harness Jack is, well, for harness - leather, so here you might be right, for I personally prefer a straight punch for leather work. But it does not have the aesthetics/practicality of your punch in the open position on that frame (from the photos I have seen) it really looks like it was made to be there.
Could call in a Brooklyn Special! I’m in for one. That punch is massive and so sinister! Charlie tell me Bill just put a punch into a frame! id love to see thatits like the old days when folks would have to carry an ice pick
I immediately thought of Sharon Stone. That punch is massive and so sinister! Charlie tell me Bill just put a punch into a frame! id love to see thatits like the old days when folks would have to carry an ice pick
