GEC 86’s for 2023

Peregrin,

Sorry, I will refrain from that discussion as well. I typically don't question pricing but this has been an interesting run lately. We know Barlow's and special issues go kind of crazy.
I'm not questioning pricing, but as to why. Not to be crass or sarcastic, but why do the threads ban pricing questions. From what a couple dealers have told me, there are a whole new group of collectors looking to enter the GEC market.
It just seems some discussion from the veterans may prevent them from getting ripped off. I think it provides important information to the thread. I do realize it has become too overloaded lately, so I regress. Thanks.
This sub-forum was set up to discuss traditional knives, not purchasing, pricing, dealers, flipping etc. The guidelines for posting here are stickied above. Here's a link; https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...s-fixed-blades-sub-forum.530532/#post-4782488.
Discussions on purchasing, pricing, dealers, flipping etc, that are appropriate, should be posted in Feedback, https://www.bladeforums.com/forums/feedback-the-good-the-bad-the-ugly.699/.
We understand that the pursuit of GEC knives is important to many of our members, and many in the knife collecting community. We appreciate that, and just ask that this sub-forum be a place where we can avoid the stuff related to purchasing etc.
Anybody having other questions, feel free to reach out to me or Frank via PMs or profile messages. Thanks!
Back to the knives, folks!

IIRC Charlie said 500 on the Catch Bit Show. Not sure if it was an even split on handle cover materials.

250 of each handle, plus the leftover parts were made into Ebonies!!
I finally got my shipment, and sent them out to various places. (I get mine after all the dealers, and supply Canadians!)

So I finally get to CF & CE them!! The box contained these Prototypes!!Proto Riders 1.jpgProto Riders 2.jpgProto Riders 3.jpg
I have to say, I love these knives!! Bill found a nice grade of Gabon Ebony, which is hard to find these days; and the white bone is nicely finished - it has a translucence to it!!! The "Empire" shields make me nostalgic for the days when I collected that cutlery, and I see why the old cutlers favored that shield!
These "Riders" have firm pulls and snap, essential to punch safety, and just plain satisfying to operate!!! Of course, Bill's/William's punch is pleasing to the eye - I have to test one soon - ( I see SteveC SteveC has already done so! Post number 540 - back a page!) I have an "S" model ebony which I will carry and use!! More pics in the future!!

Absolutely fantastic well done.

Some random knife thoughts, blades with tools.

I use the awl on my old issued SAK a lot it is a very useful tool,so much so I kept one of my SAKs in my garage/shed opened on the awl ready to use.

But it does not have the aesthetics/practicality of your punch in the open position on that frame (from the photos I have seen) it really looks like it was made to be there.

It would even be a useful/practical tool in itself without the blade, much like the Electricians single blade screwdriver issued to me in the Army,I have since found another with a blade that is non issue.

It even has the much loved "oil the joints" stamp.😇

I doubt anyone will be doing a blade delete any time soon though 😁

Can you tell me "the leftover parts were made into Ebonies!!" does this mean more of the same or something different?

Where shields put on originally for engraving or just for looks?

I've used a punch (awl) on my SAK a lot, and I would say it is very practical there. T-shaped handle is very comfortable to penetrate materials with the punch. But Harness Jack is, well, for harness - leather, so here you might be right, for I personally prefer a straight punch for leather work.

That punch is massive and so sinister! Charlie tell me Bill just put a punch into a frame! id love to see that 😂 its like the old days when folks would have to carry an ice pick

Amazing HJ’s Charlie and a congratulations to anyone that was able to get the CC beauties. I didn’t even know where to look, so I went for the red; and scored! While it’s not that exquisite ebony or white bone, I’m extremely happy with it. After how many knives I acquired at the rendezvous, the only thing that could have tempted me to break the wallet back out was a HJ. I’m good now… no more knives needed, right?

I was thrilled to see that the red linen was done the same as the Viper SFA! Oh what a pair this is going to be 🤤
