I'm in.
I suppose my first traditional was a $4 Opinel that I got before going to Outward Bound. It started in early February of 1983 in the Pisgah National Forest. I used the heck out of that knife and wish I still had it. Of course being a teenage idiot, I had to have a Buck 110, which served no purpose other than being extra weight in my pack. It was also 10x the price of the Opinel. Can't say for sure, but my best recollection was that it cost as much,if not more, than a 110 today.
Don't get me wrong, that 110 served me well for many years and I still have it, but I didn't need it at Outward Bound. I'd give a lot to have that Opinel back. A replacement just ain't the same, but I need to get an Opinel for it's own sake.
What got me back into Traditionals was finding a rusty crud encrusted blob and being curious what it was. After a lot of cleaning and soaking in a variety of cleaners and oils, I discovered it was a discarded or lost Case Mini Trapper. The blades have some chips, but after a bit of sharpening the knife is totally functional. Wish I had taken before and after pictures. I seem to recall dating it to the early 1970's.
Therefore, I bought a Case medium Amber Bone Stockman and carry it a lot. I just have a thing for Stockman knives because that's what my Dad carried. Plus, I like having a sheepsfoot and a spey blade to go with the main clip blade.
Don't have a GEC, but am curious and would like to buy one someday. Got diagnosed with a Pulmonary Embolism on October 31st (yep, HALLOWEEN). And later when I got a Rx of Warfarin the price was $6.66, I kid you not. Take Xarelto now, much to my insurances protests (almost $600/month) and the co-pay ain't cheap. But being self-employed, no work=no pay. But I'm very thankful b/c there were quite a few things that occurred that were incredible in their timing.
Had a wonderful CHRISTMAS and hope everyone has a great New Year - except for Florida State! J/K but I hate your "wonderful young men who show a lot of character" football team.
