GEC Bullnose

Mail's In.

I'm a happy camper.

I'm wondering why some of you guys are surprised that these knives have half-stops? The original Bull Nose Work Knife, with orange delrin covers, that this knife is fashioned after has half-stops.

These new Bull Nose Work Knifes with black delrin look good. For those that got them, enjoy.

This is a very, very nice knife. I love the shape and the feel in hand, the F&F on this is really great (was a bit worried due to my Conductor), and it feels so weighty and solid. Very much feels like it deserves the name 'work knife' and will get used and abused accordingly :D

Can't wait to see if GEC takes this pattern and starts doing interesting handle materials and etc. An ebony GEC bullnose is the only way this one ever leaves my possession!

Mine hasn't arrived just yet, though it is projected for delivery tomorrow. I think the pivot arrangement looks better with black scales than with the orange. I haven't made up my mind yet on the blade etch, but I think it will have to go.

I received mine in the mail yesterday, and I ordered only 2 hours after the email hit my inbox. I am new to soddies, but I have a traditional yellow CV soddie by Case, and then this one. I am super happy with both. Have to say I loved the packaging from GEC. Light coating of oil, and wax paper. Great job GEC. I agree with several of you though, the orange would have been super cool.

This is my only soddie pattern, but I love it. Some things that stand out to me compared to other patterns I own:

1) pinchable blade is extremely helpful in frequent use
2) I am very happy to see that the blade is made from fairly thin stock (compared to other GECs I have), this makes it a really useable knife for me and a hell of a slicer.
3) I love that its very light and doesn't weight my pocket down
4) blade shape is great, the very slight drop at the tip really helps when piercing ability is necessary (tasks where a sheepsfoot or wharncliffe might excel at)
5) lanyard hole is nice, adding a leather lanyard really adds a nice touch
6) Handle shape is very comfortable for my medium sized hands.

overall I think "work knife" is the best way I would describe this knife. It feels like it has been well thought out with all those little detail features that make you appreciate a fine knife.

I got mine this morning and I am very impressed. I was worried that the blade wouldn't be centered (about the only thing that would bug me). But mine showed up perfectly centered the F&F of the knife is great. I am a big fan of simple. The only thing not great was the blade sharpness, but I couldn't care less about that as I was going to sharpen it anyway. The blade wasn't real dull, but after learning so much on this site I would be embarassed if I didn't make it sharper. Not to mention I have wanted to see how O1 steel sharpens and holds up.

All in all a very nice knife by GEC and hopefully there are another color or two in the future for the Bullnose.

I got mine in today too, I'm pleased with this little knife. One thing I didn't notice before this guy showed up is that it has steel liners. I don't think I've ever seen a sodbuster with steel liners before. Fit and finish on mine is great, much better than you usually see on a sodbuster. The knife feels very solid, I'm sure it will hold up to all but the most blatantly abusive use. I'm looking forward to using this one, and getting a nice patina on there. I only have a couple other knives with O1 steel, but it seems very nice.

Got mine today also. Fit and finish is very good, better than I expected. Blade is centered and tight, springs are just right and flush in all three positions, nice. Has a pretty good edge too. I am very pleased. :)

Mine arrived today as well. My comments mirror those above, excellent fit and finish, but wouldn't hurt to be a little sharper. Perhaps GEC just needs a little more experience/practice on the O1. Nevertheless, I'm very pleased with this one.

But yeah, I like the graphic design, but I think the etch will have to go.

Mine (x2) came today as well. I got one for myself and one for my soon-to-be 11-year-old. He will think it is so cool that he has a knife just like his dad's knife. And of course, that sentiment goes both ways!

Got two in today. Picked them up on the way back from a colonoscopy, so my day went from pretty s****y to pretty darn good. I only reserved one, but when the original e-mail to purchase said go ahed and order more and see how it goes I ordereed one for my brother in Wisconsin too. I've sent him a few knives in the past, but this is by far the nicest. I'm sending it out to him in the morning, with instructions to use it like he stole it. All in all, I think my Queen Country Cousin is going to be taking a break for a while in favor of the new Bullnose. I ordered one of the Schrade Red Bone trappers along with them, and that is an awsome deal in itself. Any of you guys looking at the 73s should give these a look.

I feel like the pivot on this one is done a little better (quality of construction and finished product) than the orange one I got and used a bit.

I had to sharpen mine... but it sharpened up nicely. Should need nothing but stropping to maintain a razors edge from here on out. Love the O-1.

Congrats to all those that were able to get one.

I sharpen each blade I get. Still need to fuss some more near the tip, but the rest sharpened up very nicely.
