GEC Conductor

Also want to say that i prefer the Pen over the Coping blade for the secondary. I think a Pen blade is the single most useful profile of all and second is a Clip blade.
So a Clip and a Pen on a single spring: you can't beat that for a pocket knife.

+1 i love the pen knife patterns. thin, sharp and a great selection of blades.

Stu - that etching looks fantastic. It looks to be a cut above the vinegar soak I sometimes give 1095. I may have to try that sometime.

I am a big conductor fan as well. My favorite (in my pocket now) is the ebony SFO with coping blade and bail. I think this probably my favorite GEC offering.

Completely fallen for this. Is it something GEC came up with or is it a replica of an existing/old pattern?

And I'm the opposite! The pen blade on any knife is not used much for me. I prefer a straight blade with sharp point and a spey style for the belly. That being said I am quite fond of mine in Red bone, but just isn't the same with the pen not being used, just feels like I am short changing the knife but the clip- being a smallish blade- does everything the pen would for me. I lust after a coping blade variety, perhaps fortune will favor me before the rest of you buy them! I've already lost out on the jigged bone half congress I had my eye on.

Thank goodness for variety.

I just picked up my elephant ivory Northfield Conductor. It is absolutely Perfect ! The ivory is far nicer than i had expected.
Both blades are shaving sharp and the edge grinds go all the way to the very tip giving a truly sharp point. Pull is about a 6 and likely with a bit of use will become more of a "5" which i think is perfect for a Pen knife. Blade spine/spring junction is tight, square and even. The ivory scales and threaded bolsters are perfectly fitted. Even the bail is substantial and tightly fitted, not loose and floppy, so it stays out of the blade path when closing the Clip.
This knife could not be better.
Bye-bye Case/Bose collabs, you've been surpassed by regular run GEC's.

Let's see some pictures, Roland. Sounds like a good one.

I'll try later today but i fear i will not do justice to this ivory which always difficult to capture in pictures.
As for "Sounds like a good one": From what i've read in this thread and based on my Real Harness Jack, GEC has achieved a very high standard of workmanship such that every knife is now quite exceptionally fine, equal to the best ever produced by any USA manufacturer. And that is a very high standard.

The ivory is 'richer' than these pictures show.

For comparison with the finest elephant ivory i have ever seen, here is the Northfield with a Jos. Rodgers multiblade, circa 1900:

Both have much nicer ivory than was captured here.
I am 100% pleased with this very fine GEC knife.

Yes, that Rodgers is one of the finest knives I've seen on the Internet, truly exceptional condition.
Oh, the Conductor is very good too-even if i have reservations about the origins of the scales on these knives.

Got my Conductor in elk on Saturday. The f&f is good, a bit below what I've come to expect from GEC. Neither blade was as sharp as i would have liked either, but I've got a good edge on the pen blade now and will go to work on the clip tonight. Overall I'm very happy with the knife  Here's just a quick iPhone pic.

My Northfield in Burnt Sienna jig bone w/bail came today, and frankly I'm floored. What a beautiful knife! I'd like to take a pic of it, but the only camera we have right now is this !@#$ fancy one of my wife's and I'll be darned if I can do a thing with it.

It's so sweet I may have a hard time carrying it...but I will. I think I'll save it for Christmas Day and use it to open packages.

I can see now the Conductor won't be my only GEC...darn it! I thought I'd be saving money over buying watches, now I'll just be buying more knives. :D

Thank's for the pics Roland, they both look beautiful!! Great looking Elk on that one Nathan!!

Nathan, may I ask how your Conductor is less than what you've come to expect in build?

I've heard that American Elk is less durable this can cause gaps etc. My experience of the stainless GEC knives is that the Acorn shield is usually proud and not inlet nicely like the Tidioute's or UNX*LD versions.

Regards, Will
