GEC...Please Make More Patterns Available To Us in 440C...yea or nea ?

No Bob, not lacklustre but they're materials with a limited appeal. For sure, offer something with American materials, but to almost exclusively confine the stainless options to these is clearly a mistake. Their stainless is really good, their patterns have a depth of appeal and would sell far more if GEC would make use of its other handles as well. For example, my stainless White Owl in Light Tan was one of only 5 made, I'm certain the bones, hardwoods etc would be very keenly received. Why not have acrylics or micarta mated to stainless for that matter?

Regards to all, Will

I agree Will. Besides, its not like they haven't done it in the past... (except I'd ask for canvas instead of paper, I like the character and texture a bit more.) I think a run like these would sell out pretty quickly and could bring modern knife enthusiasts to appreciate traditional patterns that they've ignored and spark an interest in traditional knives as a whole. Make a run with just the single drop point blade as its the most popular pattern. I'm sure it will sell out quick (EC and ECL please :o:D).

Just to add 2 other favorites of mine... The old actually red red stag and a single blade in burnt stag (although this was an SFO in 420 but you get the idea of what it can look like in 440c)

Variety is the spice of life. I'd love to have more 440C GECs along side my 1095 GECs. Good stainless is hard to beat on a working knife. Then again I'm quite fond of the patina 1095 exhibits. Either way I'm a happy camper so as long as fit and finish is kept up to the old standard. I'd be ecstatic if they offered 52100.

I wanted to stand up and cheer when I read this post.

52100 is my all time favorite steel.

I'd love to get 440c with ebony or micarta covers. The bird's eye maple looks OK but it's not a first choice as I prefer darker or redder woods.

Agreed as well. The BEM can at least be dyed to be darker. I actually like the walnut GEC has been using but would love ebony as well.

I wish that trapper had a wharncliffe as the secondary blade...I hate when a 2-bladed knife has similar blade profiles.

Agreed although it isn't too bad on these imo... Also, how well did the #53s sell?

I say yea.

What's the tally?

I tried to do a tally earlier on, and there were quite a few question marks in there...the Yea's did outnumber the Nea's, but I would also assume that a lot of Nea's wouldn't even open such a thread?

I may buy a stainless especially since I really like birdseye maple, and GEC used some nice wood with a lot of eyes unlike some other companies birdseye offerings. But carbon will outnumber the stainless by at least 10 to 1 in my collection.

Possibly? But while I'm technically a NI! (you choose the spelling, I choose the pronunciation), I'm not at all opposed to more stainless GECs for those who would like them. That's different than, "No, don't do that."

Given my current selection and general (often specific!) preferences, a GEC knife has to overcome being stainless in order for me to opt in. It's been known to happen. ;)

Oh, that's just me clicking every so often to get your hopes up.

(Kidding. :p)

Well Bob, I think your offerings prove the point. Lets use the Dog Leg trapper as an example. You have 3 in 440C. 1 Elk and 2 wood. Now I already mentioned, I don't personally care for the look of the elk handles, nor the wood. Just not my taste. AND it makes the knives more expensive. $120 for the elk and $96 for the wood.

Now you do have a Dog Leg Trapper that I think looks great and is priced right, the one in Cherry Red Jigged Bone, for just over $80. But wait, it's not offered in stainless, only 1095.

It's exactly my taste in knives, but I'm all spent out right now so I won't be picking that one up from you. I happen to use knives of that size and shape for my apple and orange slicing duties at work, so I'd really rather have it in 440C so I can easily wash it up after use and not worry about it. I use a Case SS Slimline Trapper for that now.

So that is the ENTIRE point of this thread - we want them to offer SS in OTHER PATTERNS and handles. If I loved Elk and wanted to pay an extra $35-40 for it, then fine, but I don't. Give me some SS blades in popular patterns, and let me have some nice looking bone, and THEN I'll vote with my wallet.

But don't say: Hey, you really must not like SS because you aren't buying them. Because I wouldn't buy those knives at those prices in 1095 either. They just aren't my taste.

THAT is all we are saying. If you want to make ugly overpriced knives, do those in 1095 and make the pretty affordable ones in SS for a change. :)

I have done business with you and couldn't be happier but in fairness, you have all of 6 knives in 440C on offer covering a whole 3 patterns, with 3 dressed in wood and 3 in Elk Stag. Even so, the oldest of the six is a 2012 model.
I would bet dollars to donuts that your 2011 Templar Toothpicks will still be on your shelves after all six of your 440C knives are gone.

My point is that I think the models you have available in 440C would likely be available even if they had carbon blades.
I would like to see more of the popular patterns, in popular handle materials, offered by GEC in 440C.

How about one of those 28 French Kate Leg Knives in stainless....?.:D:D I bet the carbon ones have all long gone (hollow laugh).....

Of course I knew there were numerous reasons nobody would really vote with their wallet. This,That ,whatever. By the way the Templar Toothpicks sold out long ago. If there are any on the site it's a mistake.

Actually the two in Elephant Ivory and Carbon Steel left several weeks ago.

No you're absolutely Right. Those are the only offerings I have left in stock, because the folks that like SS bought all the others I had.
