GEC Radio Knife

I want to get one of these just for the jigged bone. It looks fantastic!

The jigging on the Radio Knife is some of the best jigging I've seen come out of GEC.

Here is mine...

I just purchased an ebony one from collectorknives.net. I'm very excited to get this one. It'll be my first in ebony.

Just got in my red bone radio knife. It may be the best constructed and finished traditional production knife I've ever owned or handled. Very impressed. It even came sharp enough to use straight out of the tube - which was a first from GEC for me. I want to buy a second now just to have a backup.

Thanks Paul. Happy Holidays to you and yours!

Of all the 15 pattern knives I own my ebony 2 blade like yours see the most action. It's a dandy.

I agree, that particular one was my very first slipjoint and it's still my everyday carry. Rarely do I leave the house without it. Even if I carry another knife it's in addition to my clip/pen ebony. My favourite knife, perfect size, blade combo for my need, and I love the pure black ebony worn in nice and smooth by now. Too bad I had to sand off some rust due to a bad night of neglect and start the patina over but it's a nice medium grey again. I feel weird when it's not in my pocket, regardless of what other knife I have on me. Might have to get another in rust red of autumn bone.

These radio knives are tempting but I'm not going to buy one just yet. Maybe later. They make great eye candy though, really enjoying this thread.

This primitive AM radio is my preferred vehicle for Oldie stations, but is not nearly as primitive as the radios serviced by early knives of this "Radio" type.

I thought I'd post a couple of comparison pics with GEC's interpretation of the Radio knife.
The D-E might have been a contemporary of RCA Victor and Hallicrafter radios etc, of suitable vintage. It is 3 3/8", whereas the GEC is 3 1/2".

It is interesting looking at the different proportions of the various details.

Charlie, that Diamond Edge is a terrific knife---love everything about it!!!

Thanks for the pictures, would like to see a Spear version Radio knife from GEC?

Paul

I think GEC might do one - I hope so, anyway.

Spectacular jigging on that DE. Can't be an easy thing to do or everyone would be doing it.

They keep getting closer. One day we'll see it. Meantime, the "attempts" are none too shabby, IMO!!

Charlie, that Shapliegh is wonderful! Love the spear point, the jigging, the bolsters... everything about it is cool!

Thanks, Phil. From Schrade, during one of their heydays I am sure!

Got home today and my rust red radio was waiting in the mailbox. Holy cow, the thing is just lovely. Absolutely the sharpest out of the tube I have received to date. I love this knife. It is just perfect for me.

I always love seeing the antiques you own. While I am personally not into collecting enough to amass the sort of collection you have I love seeing your knife collection. Such a store of history in your keeping. It's definitely appreciated.

Received my radio knife in ebony yesterday from collectorknives.net. super fast shipping as always. What a beautiful knife. This one is going straight into my pocket.

I'm an amatuer radio guy and I don't know ! Tell me ! They were apparently around before the transistor radios which started out in the 1950s as I remember.
