GEC Radio Knife

JerryIsAlive and Old & In The Way, you two know each other? Just how many deadheads do we have on this thing? Count me in as one. And ummm... Knife talk.... I didn't think hippies were so forward thinking as to get something to open their beers ahead of time.... ;)

Add in one more

I like the knife and having a bottle opener flathead combo. Works for the kids toys, crafts, etc. and on beer. I typically have an alox sak to solve this dilemma, but something with a nicer scale option would be an obvious upgrade. I keep thinking about making scouts 'my pattern' as they are so useful, but I am not really a collector or accummulator and SAKs seem to work for me.

I think the bottle opener will come in handy for us ham radio operators. When Catostrophic events occur and all these people who have never been on a radio before decide to try out the one they put up for said event, all of us regulars will need to pop a few to help us deal with the chaos on the airwaves. I dread that day....

Let's watch those acronyms, folks.

If there is a word in that acronym which would not be acceptable in Traditional, then neither is the acronym.

Say the bottle opener wears out over time/use, would there be a way to fix it? How long/how much use would it take to wear down?

I honestly cannot say that I have ever seen a bottle opener wear down to the point where it stopped opening bottles. That includes all antiques I have seen and even the cheap ones you find in a dollar store. That also includes the ones I used when I tended bar for a few years, and those bottle openers are used at least a hundred times more frequently than just about anyone will ever use one on a pocket knife, even if you are a heavy drinker:cool:

The only time I have ever managed to put a bottle opener out of service is when I used the screwdriver tip of the bottle opener on my Swiss Army Knife to open oysters, and the blade snapped off on a particularly hard to open oyster. The good news is that Victorinox just replaced the blade, free of charge, despite me telling them how I did it.

Rust Red or Antique Yellow????

Can't afford both but would like to see examples of knives with these bones.

Thanks, Will

Here's antique yellow on a 15 Scout. I'm tempted to get a rust red, just because I don have any, but really like my antique yellow.

I love how that antique yellow turned out-- it's caught my eye in Andi's and others' pictures as well.

Looking at the "cover" picture again, it seems GEC's going with wider(?) jigging this time around, but with the same great color tones:

Very cool,I'm liken' the new look of the jigging & the antique yeller.

Now if they'd make a Farm Boy with a bolster & punch on the other end I'd be in knife heaven.

Bob said they only shipped out yesterday. I'm guessing not all dealers have posted them for sale yet and those that did either sold out on pre-orders or removed the preorder until they know exactly how many they're getting.

Please excuse my lack of knowledge here folks, just what is with the Radio theme - is it to capture the yesteryear of actually working on the old Valve radios? - sorry if I sound sill asking this,
I usually like the etches on GECs knives, but I could take or leave this one, which wouldn't stop me buying the knife if it had the etch on it - it's just that I usually really LIKE the etches.

They didn't ship the Ebony Radio Knives to me this week! Even Christine must not know for sure. I removed the pre-order from site when the knives start shipping.

In addition to the above this knife has a screw driver and crown cap bottle opener blade as well as a can opener blade which comes in mighty handy for opening up a can of sardines and cold bottle for that midnight snack while building the radio set.

Love it! :D

Bingo. I know that I will get all I ordered a month ago, as they were not sold out (at the factory) until pictures started floating around. Before they sold out I added to my order and am not sticking my neck out on the add-ons. So, I just put the inventory on the pre-orders at what I ordered long ago and will add to it once I get a ship confirmation. When my inventory gets to zero, it pulls them from the site. The NifeBrite and Antique Yellow rolled in today.

Other dealers did not do pre-orders in the past, but a couple have now started. It is a little more work to keep track of things to insure you don't over sell.
