GEC Radio Knife

Ya'll did it to me. I thought I'd be happy with the Charlow I ordered Sunday but after all the pictures I went and ordered a radio in antique yellow tonight. Guess wife didn't need a Christmas present this year......

Welp, I just got home from a Saturday drive that somehow found me parked in front of KSF's brick and mortar store :D I couldn't leave without a new Radio Knife, being has how not having one has been keeping me up at night. I got one in antique yellow. Man is the bone fine on this one! I was also pleasantly surprised to find that it was shaving sharp out of the tube! The folks at GEC must have heard our cries.

I immediately put it to use opening a coke an a piece of mail (the other mail was reserved for the new Charlow that also followed me home ;) )

Here are some pics including the inaugural cap lifting:

Mighty fine pair of knives!!
Same frame, yet so different!!

It's true, they're completely different animals. I have a few Boys Knives, but this is the first time I've had an opportunity to handle, much less own, a Charlow. I'm blown away with how well this knife is executed! My hat's off to you. The single Spey is so slim and elegant. I also picked up a fresh jar of marmalade...I'll be sure and get some pics into the barlow thread as soon as I get a chance to spread some onto a sandwich.

Yes, nice pair! The jigging on the Boy's Knife is different than those in the past and I think it's an improvement. Kudos to GEC on their excellent bone colors and jigging on this lot. Just Beautiful!

I'd be ordering one of these jigged bones but, unfortunately I had to get new glasses. I was getting used to constantly furrowing my brow to see anything. Just looks like I'm angry all the time, which just isn't me. So, new glasses, no new knife(um, besides the two blade Charlow I just got on Thursday), still looking angry all the time....:rolleyes:

I thought you might like to see all the iterations of the "Radio" knife; for some reason I received one in old style bone jigging and the rest with the new jigging style. Maybe it a 'one of' but I don't know. GEC doesn't like to waste resources!

I have to agree on the etch. It just doesn't do much for me. I would like to have seen something like a schematic symbol like a triode or tube pin out..... something cool from the golden days of radio. The text with thunderbolts just looks kinda weak to me.

Normally, I don't like etches, but there have been a few good looking ones like Charlie's "Day's Work" looks great on the recent Charlows.

I wish GEC would've asked me for a few etch ideas! I was thinkin' of an antique radio antenna tower with lighting running through the text. At least use a neat looking font. :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy:

Fortunately, it is easily removed. The new jigging on the bone is very nice though, and the colors fantastic! The red bone is pretty close to the old Case red bone from the seventies. I can easily overlook the etch. :D

I like that idea!

Thanks for the pic!! It seems in the picture that the primary blade on the ebony is more hidden than the others is it just the angle?

Believe me, she would want YOU to be happy! :)

Yeah it's just the angle of the shot Jerry. The Ebony on the left is off to the side of the pic. The others are a more direct-line view.
