GEC Radio Knife

Oh man, I can't wait to carry that rust red Radio knife! I'll have to wear my old radio room watch when I do :D

I'm not a collector but as a HAM I'd be interested in the Radio Knife and I bet other HAMs would be also.

Thanks Bob.

I definitely think that some cross advertising in any of the HAM journals or forums would be a good move on GEC's part, depending on how much it would cost. A family friend tinkers with audio equipment, and takes down and rebuilds old wire recorders, vintage stereo equipment and some shortwave radios. He might like this radio knife.

So is that the antique yellow bone being shown here?

Yes Steve, they knocked out of the park didn't they?

Yeah they did! I was just making sure I knew what I snagged. I thought that was it but hadn't actually seen it labeled anywhere. I managed to snag one today. I needed two but I am glad I got at least the one.

Seriously, is someone missing the handles off of their antique Schrade? Because I think they wound up on my radio knife.

Beauties! I'll be carrying this one a lot. Once it comes I'll have the #15 with each of the main blades (Knifebrite w/spear, Charlow w/sheepfoot, Radio w/clip)...err, I better get a spey now too :D

Not sure how but I totally missed out on these!:grumpy:

I doubt you did. I bet most dealers havent gotten these in stock yet. A few dealers have posted in this thread. I'd keep an eye on their sites over the next coming days if you want one.

I wasn't a fan of some of the other bone covers GEC puts out but these are beautiful. Almost makes me wish I got these instead of ebony.... Almost.

I received my Radio knife today in Nifebrite (Ebony was sold out at the time and I was afraid I would miss the chance if I didn't pull the trigger then). Here's my first impressions from someone who is just being introduced to the traditional world:

-Overall fit and finish is excellent for a $75 knife, there's no gaps between the covers and the bolsters, and the springs are flush with the handle (except in the half stop where they're barely proud). The clip point blade is perfectly centered.
-The Nifebrite charges quickly and glows pretty brightly. In daylight it looks a little bit like bone or ivory minus the grain
-The blade came very well ground and sharpened, shaves hair out of the box
-bottle opener works excellently
-zero blade wiggle

While I don't have anything to compare it to but a Swiss Army Knife and my dad's Canal Street Cannitler, I do have to say that it is very difficult for me to open. Unfortunately I have a bad habit of cutting my nails very short, which is not working in my favor here. I'm hoping it breaks in a bit. Overall I'm definitely impressed, and I can see why you guys are hooked on these. It's definitely not my last traditional, there's a Canal Street Cutlery Half Moon and Northwoods #44 with my name on them. :D

That bone jig hollers old Schrade Cut Co right in my face!

Great-looking knife, and it's nice to know GEC got the bottle-opener right :)
